Taize - Evening Meditation

Young people filling a chapel on a Friday evening to pray at a Taize night? Absolutely. Students from both Mercy Catholic College and St Pius X College, along with parishioners of Our Lady of Dolours filled the chapel at Mercy College last Friday evening and sang, meditated and sang again. I was deeply moved to witness students remain behind on bended knee to soak in the candle lit time with their loving God.

Thank you to Mercy College for hosting again, and for the flourishing partnership which nourishes our young pilgrims of hope.

Year 11 Formation Day

‘Be who God meant you to be and you

will set the world on fire’

Our first of two Year 11 formation days for the year ignited last Friday to the words of St Catherine of Sienna. Students explored the masks we wear, discerned the freedom in embracing God’s dream for them and were challenged to live a life that was ‘whole’ and lived to the full.

We were blessed to once again have Tony Huang from Inspire 180, share his faith and testimony, highlighting the radical and redemptive love of God in his story that was ‘unmasked’ for Year 11.

The students shared their own masks with courageous vulnerability. A heartwarming illustration of pilgrims of hope.

Bishop Mass and Blessing Celebrations

Preparations are in full swing in readiness for the Mass and New Building Blessing by the Bishop of Broken Bay, next Tuesday 8 April. The new College crucifix that has been shaped by staff, students and parents has been a key feature of the preparations.

One has been produced to adorn the front of the altar being blessed by the Bishop, as well as a larger one to feature in the Waterford Learning Centre.

Lenten Appeal - We need your help!

This year we are seeking to raise funds and awareness to support the work of the Edmund Rice Centre Nairobi. If a young person is enrolled at the school, they are freed from circumstances that often result in being chained to a bed in the dark confines of their shelter in the slums to keep them safe while their parents search for work and meals. To assist in further students receiving the opportunity to enrol at the school and benefit from its services, the College is seeking to raise $40,000. Such funds would create four new classrooms for additional students to enrol.

This equates to $5 per student each week during Lent or $30 per student.

Please note that the ‘Night of Hope Fundraiser and Advocacy Evening’ will not take place on 4 April but will instead take place early Term 2. The new date will be advised shortly.

Blessed Carlo Acutis Canonisation Youth Orchestra

We are delighted to witness our young musicians taking part in the canonisation celebrations of Blessed Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint on 27 April this year. As shared previously, Our Lady of Dolours Chatswood is the only church in Australia to have a first class relic of Blessed Carlo. As such, there will be much celebration for our community when he is canonised in Rome. To assist with the celebration Mass, a specialised orchestra has been formed for this Mass.

Students began rehearsals last Friday after school with their friends in faith from Mercy. Please keep them in your prayers.
