Principal Message

Dear Families,

Apple Fair & Playground: I am still in disbelief at how good the Apple Fair was and much was raised! Like many of the staff, I am so grateful to the community for the work and generosity shown to help us deliver a new playground area for the students. I have approached 4 playground companies, 3 have progressed to planning and quoting and one has withdrawn.  The $50k will be combined with another maintenance grant from the Department of Education to extend the life of the green and blue playgrounds (refurb of some areas) and remove and replace the red playground.

NAPLAN: It has been a big two weeks for Year 3 & 5 students who have now completed NAPLAN for the year and can continue with the regular teaching and learning programs across the school. Thanks to all staff involved and to families for the extra care, rest, food, etc while the students did their best. We look forward to celebrating their results later in the year.

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP): Recently we submitted OGPS’s first RAP for feedback to www.narragunnawali.org.au and after a few minor tweaks, we have our first RAP ready to share with the community. We will create a new section on the school website soon to house the document and provide access for the community. In the meantime, please see copy of the RAP below. I’d encourage all families to have a read, see how you can contribute and if you have ideas for our next RAP (possibly 2026), join the committee and drive the direction with us. I hope all families can join with us at school and continue to acknowledge the rich cultural heritages of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Welcome Nicholas Bosely: Nicholas is our school’s KESO – Koorie Education Support officer who lives locally which is a bonus for us, so he can drop in more frequently hopefully! Nicholas has worked with several of our indigenous students over the last few years, but this year has been assigned to our school. We welcome Nicholas and know that we can learn from and with him and that all students will benefit from his knowledge sharing.

Friday 4th April: Last day of term will conclude at 2.30pm. Please make appropriate arrangements for your children so staff can also head off for the holidays too! Camp Australia is available, and it might be worthwhile opening an account for the days when you might be running late. The admin team do a great job but are not expected to wait for families when there is a facility available. We appreciate your cooperation in this space.

Assembly: This Friday @ 2.45pm we will host the last assembly for Term 1. We do have a special guest attending to present new flags to the school. Hope to see you all there.

Enjoy the rest of the week.
