Sustainability in Action

IN OUR SCHOOL VEGGIE GARDENS:

  • Grades 3 and Grade 4 harvested tomatoes, zucchini and dug over and mulched garden beds. They planted lettuce, broccoli and peas.
  • Grade 2's, Grade 1's, Prep & their Grade 5 buddies planted garlic cloves and broad bean seeds into pots. They also investigated our worm farms, learning about worms, what they like to eat and also holding some worms!
  • Grade 2's collected about 250 strawberry runner plants. In a few weeks time we will pot these up and grow them into larger strawberry plants.
  • Students from Grades 3 - 6 helped make large posters about worm farms and collecting soft plastics.

WORM FARMS

We are increasing the number of worm farms we have at school. Investigating and learning about worms and worm farms will be included in Gardening groups this term.  HERE are some Junior Gardening Australia short videos that you might like to watch at home with your children.

GROWING GARLIC

Over the next few weeks we are growing garlic with our students in Garden Groups.

HEREis a good Gardening Australia video you might like to watch at home.

COLLECTING SOFT PLASTICS

At school we have been collecting soft plastics from what the children are bringing in their lunchboxes.

Did you know that you can collect soft plastics at home? These can then be dropped into the soft plastics collection bin outside Coles at Glebe Hill. They can also be dropped off free at the Mornington Waste Station.

CAN YOU HELP WITH …

  • Donations of children’s gumboots? Clean gumboots in good condition can be dropped into the at the school office.
  • Volunteering your time to help with our student gardening program? Parents, grandparents and family members are most welcome. Please let the school office know if you can assist.
