Upcoming Cyber Safety Presentation with Susan McLean Student Sessions & Parent Information Night

We are excited to announce that Susan McLean, Australia’s leading expert in Cyber Safety and internationally renowned speaker, will be visiting our school to deliver an engaging and informative session on how to stay safe and respectful in the online world.

 

With over 28 years of experience in cyberspace—including 27 years with Victoria Police—Susan brings unmatched knowledge in dealing with online issues affecting young people. Her work is grounded in real-life experience and offers a unique understanding of the challenges children, schools, and families face in the digital age. Susan has a deep knowledge of criminal and civil law, school duty of care, and expert strategies in policy development and crisis management.


Primary Student Session: "Keeping Safe in Cyberspace – How to Have Fun and Stay Safe Online"

Susan will present an age-appropriate, fun, and interactive session for our upper primary Class 5 & 6 students. The focus will be on Respect and Responsibility in the online world. Topics will include:

  • Rules and laws around online behaviour
  • Cyberbullying and its consequences
  • Understanding online strangers and inappropriate content
  • Popular apps and age requirements
  • How to stay safe and be a good digital citizen

Students will complete a four-page workbook during the session, which will be signed by both the student and a parent/guardian, helping to reinforce the learning at home. This session is supported by videos, vibrant visuals, and Susan’s real-life experiences to make learning meaningful and lasting.


Parent Information Night: "Growing Up Online"

📍 Marian Centre, Sadadeen campus OLSH

📅 Tuesday 20th May and Wednesday 21st May 

🕕 6:00-7:30pm both nights

 

All parents and carers are invited to attend a vital and eye-opening presentation that addresses the realities of the online world children are growing up in. Delivered in Susan’s trademark “no-nonsense” style, this session covers:

  • The risks and realities of the online world
  • What your children are really doing online – apps, trends, and concerns
  • Online grooming and how to spot the signs
  • Cyberbullying and the legal consequences
  • The issue of sharing explicit images and sextortion
  • AI-generated images and the law
  • Problematic gaming and screen time management
  • Access to harmful content including pornography and sites promoting self-harm

Susan will also share practical tips for keeping children safe and provide real-world advice for families navigating the digital age.
