Principal Team Report

Creating Futures Together

Over Term One, Wheelers Hill Secondary College has been buzzing with a variety of exciting and engaging activities aimed at enhancing the learning experience and fostering connections within our community. From supporting our senior students with valuable study tips to fostering school spirit through sporting events, it’s been a busy but rewarding start to the year for everyone.

On Year 12 Focus Day, students participated in a series of workshops designed to equip them with effective study techniques to help reduce stress and enhance their productivity as they approach their final year of secondary school. These sessions covered topics such as time management, effective revision strategies, and mindfulness practices to support their wellbeing. The day was a great success, with students leaving feeling more confident and prepared for the challenges ahead.

Our Swimming and Diving Carnival was a fantastic display of talent and school spirit, with students from all year levels competing in a range of events. Congratulations to all participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship! This event is always a highlight of the school year, and it was wonderful to see so many students taking part in the fun, whether in the pool or cheering on their classmates.

In the Production Rehearsals, students have been working hard to bring this year’s performance to life. With many hours dedicated to rehearsals, it’s clear that this year’s production will be one to remember. We are excited to share the final show with the community in the coming months, and we encourage everyone to support our talented performers as they take the stage.

Recently, Year 9 Morrisby Interviews were conducted to help guide students in making informed decisions about their future career pathways. The Morrisby tool provides valuable insights into their strengths, interests, and potential career options. We believe that helping students explore their career possibilities at this stage of their education is crucial for making thoughtful decisions as they move forward in their studies.

We have also recently wrapped up the NAPLAN Assessments, which were an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills in literacy and numeracy. The results of these assessments will help guide our teaching strategies and ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our students. We thank all students for their dedication and effort throughout the testing period.

In addition, our School Sports Events have been taking place, providing students with a chance to showcase their athletic abilities and engage in friendly competition. These events foster teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship, and it’s always inspiring to see students pushing themselves to achieve their personal best.

Finally, our Year 7 Transition Camp at the Mount Evelyn Discovery Recreation Centre was an incredible experience for our new Year 7 students. The camp provided an opportunity for students to bond with their peers and teachers in a fun, supportive environment, while also taking part in outdoor activities such as hiking, team-building exercises, and orienteering. This camp is a great way to ease the transition into secondary school and foster lasting friendships among our newest students.

As always, we continue to strive for excellence in all areas of school life, and these events are just a small part of the wonderful experiences that shape our students’ time at the Wheelers Hill Secondary College. We look forward to the months ahead and the many more opportunities to come.

Just a reminder that Term Two begins on Tuesday 22 April.  It will be an important week with our whole school assembly on the Thursday.  Please be mindful that as the cooler weather approaches, students remain consistent with appropriate school attire.  We all appreciate it!
