It has been an action packed term at Surfside during term 1 with many achievements, events and celebrations in and out of the classroom. We are proud of the way our school community has settled into the start of the school year and supported the growth of all of our students. We look forward to what the remainder of 2025 will bring and wish the Surfside community a Happy Easter and a safe and restful break. We look forward to welcoming our school community back for the start of term 2 on Tuesday, 22nd April. A reminder that it is a short week as Friday, 25th April is the ANZAC Day Public Holiday.
The Grade 2’s have had an incredible term travelling back in time to Ancient Egypt! They were all very excited to share everything they had learnt with our families and special people. They were very impressed with our knowledge of pharaohs, hieroglyphs, and the history of the incredible landmarks in Egypt. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made Egypt afternoon so special.

We welcome the students and families from Surfside Primary School to participate in the 2025 Ocean Grove & Barwon Heads RSL ANZAC Day march and service on Friday, 25th April. The march will begin in the Terrace (main street of Ocean Grove) at 9:45am and the march will end at the service, which will commence at 10:00am at the Ocean Grove Cenotaph, Ocean Grove Park. Our school captains will represent Surfside in the service by laying a wreath on our behalf. If students are participating in the march it is recommended that they wear school uniform. We have also had students wearing a relatives medals of service in the past which is a lovely way to remember our service members. We welcome our Surfside community to join in and we will also be running an ANZAC Day service at school on Thursday afternoon in the courtyard.
There will be some work happening over the term 1 holidays around the school so there will be plenty of action and people around the school. The following grounds work will be completed:
Our trivia night dates are booked in and a big thank you to the many Surfside community members who expressed their interest to attend. We are aware that the Federal Election has also been announced on the same day as our trivia night. Surfside PS is also a polling venue on the day but this will not affect our Trivia Night and we are all systems go for our proposed dates of Friday 2nd may and Saturday 3rd May
A big well done to our year 3-6 students who have now completed their swimming program over the past 4 weeks. With a focus on water safety, water awareness, and building swim proficiency, the students have done an outstanding job. We received really positive feedback from the pool and local community members regarding our students and displaying our school values of Respect, Honesty, Teamwork and Achievement.
We were very proud of Emerson in year 5 who represented Surfside PS in the 11 year old backstroke at the recent Western Region Swimming Championships. The competition is very tough at this level and Emerson did a great job and she enjoyed the experience.
We were thrilled to have the support of our school community during our recent colour run. A big thank you to our helpers and the many donations from our students and community. This support goes a long way to supporting our kitchen and garden program as well as supporting upgrades around the school. There were plenty of smiles, plenty of colour and life long memories throughout the day. A big thank you to Bellarine SC for allowing us to share their space. Check out some of the fun moments below:
Our year 2’s have recently taken a deep dive into learning everything about Egypt and we’re proud to display their learnings to the many visitors who ventured past the pyramids and into the year 2 classrooms.
The Foundation-2 cohort celebrated aspects of Easter with the annual Easter Bonet Parade. A big thank you to the staff and visitors for providing such a fun experience. There were so many individual designs and plenty of smiles and laughs on show. Check out some amazing pictures below:
