Looking Back

Before we jump into another fun filled term, we wanted to say a huge thank you for Term 1! It really did finish off with a bang, with both celebration afternoon and the happy hat parade in the last week!

Learning in action - a preview

This newsletter aims to give you a preview into the learning that will occur in Term 2!

Literacy

This term were are excited to continue our literature units, this time we will be tuning into history and geography looking at the following topics:

- Anzac Day

- Built Geography

- Connection to Country

- Imaginative texts

Throughout each topic we will focus on developing the students' comprehension and writing skills, by building their background knowledge and vocabulary.

In our sentence level writing lessons, we will be covering a range of topics whilst reviewing previously learnt skills. Over the term we will look at developing questions, subordinating conjunctions, sentence types and converting fragments into sentences.

Students will also continue working on their individual goals, progressing through Sparkle levels or working on fluency, sentence level or whole text comprehension reading goals.

Word Work:

Over this term we will continue looking into vowel digraphs and the rules that helps us know when to use which one. Stay tuned for word lists to use at home!

Maths:

Over Term 2 we are excited to focus on addition and subtraction in our Number units. Students will learn the connection between the two operations, see how they are evident in real life situations and practise strategies to solve them. During this process, students will be assigned and practise their own individual goals. In our applied topics the Grade 2s will be looking at calendars and time, before moving on to Location.

Knowledge Rich:

Inquiry this term will be looking a little different, and will now be referred to as our ‘Knowledge Rich’ units. This is because our focus has shifted to align with the Science of Learning, where we will have a greater focus on building rich and powerful knowledge for our students to support their reading comprehension, as well as understanding of the world. Throughout the term we will be linking Knowledge Rich units to our literature units and looking at geography. We will focus on two units 'Uluru' and 'Growing Colonies' throughout the term.

Wellbeing:

With all our Grade 2 students now finished our Friendology program, and being qualified Friendship Ninjas, this term we will be following our Resiliences, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR’s) program. To start off we will be looking at problem solving, before moving on to stress management later in the term.
