From the 3/4 Classrooms

 -Welcome Back

Welcome back after the Easter break! We hope you and your families have had a fantastic holiday and a ready for Term 2!

Start-Up

During the first week of Term 2, students from F-6 participated in our 'start-up program', a program designed to revisit and reflect on our school values, our rights and responsibilities and what makes an effective learner and optimal classroom environment for learning.

Home Learning

Just a reminder regarding home learning in Grade 3/4:

  • Spelling practice of words allocated on a Monday to be tested each week on a Friday. Students will have a Home Learning book in which they will glue their spelling list in on Monday ready for daily Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check practice at home. On Friday mornings, we ask that the home learning book comes back to school to be checked and signed by the teacher. This will also ensure that the book is back at school and ready for new words to be glued in the following Monday.
  • Reading for 30 minutes per school night using either a teacher allocated novel (brought home from school) or an independent book choice. We encourage students to access the school Library which has a vast range of texts to choose from.
  • My Numeracy and My Literacy (Essential Assessment) - ONE task of each will be set weekly which complement classroom learning.
  • Timestables - students will receive a sheet with 50 multiplication questions on a Monday and will be required to complete this sheet during the week. Students are welcome to practise these multiplication questions throughout the week. On Friday they will be asked to complete the same sheet, but timed.

Students need to remember to bring their student diary and home learning book everyday to school. Home learning will be glued into their diary each Monday.

Cross Country

This Tuesday 29th April, students attended our annual whole school Cross Country event!

The Grade 3/4 students have been practising hard during Term 1 in the physical education classes by running laps to the top oval and encouraging families to do some running over the school holidays to be prepared for the annual BPPS cross country event.

Students were encouraged to do their best and to importantly have fun! We were very proud of all the students building up their fitness and displaying resilience.

Integrated in Term 2 - Harmony with H20

Students will learn about Earth's natural resources and the importance of using them sustainably. They will conduct simple experiments related to the water cycle, desalination, andfiltration. Students will explore the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans and consider actions they can take to reduce the amount of singleuse plastic they use. They will

investigate the importance of rainforests and the unique animals that call the Amazon rainforest home.

The essential questions we will be exploring are:

  • How do droughts and floods occur and what are their impacts?
  • What are the processes of the water cycle?
  • Why is it important to conserve water?
  • Why is it important to protect our oceans and rainforests?

In Week 4, students will be participating in an incursion to further their knowledge and exploration of H20! Please check Compass for further details regarding permission and payment.

We look forward to a fantastic term of learning!
