Exploring Excellence in Business, Entrepreneurship and Performance

The Business, Entrepreneurship, and Performance department connects students across diverse disciplines, including Business, Legal Studies, and Health and Physical Education. In 2025, we welcomed our new HPE Coordinator, Ms Andreena Shannon, who has already become a valued part of our dynamic team.

Our focus is centered on experiential learning, where students actively engage in real-world experiences to deepen their understanding and enthusiasm for their studies.

Term 1 has been especially busy, with students embracing excursions, incursions, and hands-on learning opportunities:

  • Senior Accounting students: attended the Accounting Student Forum at QUT, offering them a glimpse into university life. This immersive event challenged them to design and cost solutions to complex accounting scenarios.
  • Year 12 Legal Studies students: visited the QEII Law Courts, participating in a legal research workshop and observing cases in the District and Supreme Courts. These experiences were instrumental in developing the skills necessary for their IA2 Inquiry Reports.
  • Sport and Recreation students: explored emerging sports recently introduced to the Olympic Games. From breakdancing and speed climbing to parkour, obstacle course racing, and skateboarding, students critically evaluated the criteria for Olympic inclusion and speculated on potential additions for Brisbane 2032.

Health and Physical Education Highlights

For Years 8 and 9, Term 1 has brought excitement and innovation! Exceptional coaches have provided unique and enriching experiences:

  • Year 8 HPE students: received expert tennis coaching from Matt Limpus of LifeTime Tennis. Their hard work has improved their groundstrokes and serving accuracy, while their doubles teamwork showcased impressive collaboration, these are key skills for the 21st century.
  • Year 9 HPE students: explored a new unit on Exergaming, which has quickly become a favourite. Integrating technology into fitness, students engaged in circuits in the “Cardio Room,” experimenting with interactive features like rowing, treadmill, cycling, and ski pull games. They also benefited from guidance provided by our College Strength and Conditioning Coach, Lucy, through a plyometric training circuit. Later, students enhanced their fitness with engaging activities on the Nintendo Switch, including "Ring Fit" and "Just Dance."
  • Year 10 Health and Wellbeing students: have been studying a practical unit on self-defence. Each week, students have had In Defence Personal Safety Specialists come into their class to lead the students in Krav Maga self-defence.

As we reflect on Term 1, it's clear that experiential learning is driving innovation and enthusiasm within our department, empowering students with skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Our assemblies this year are taking a dynamic and fresh new approach. Each House has been asked to contribute to or host a segment in upcoming assemblies. This could be in the form of a performance, supplying a motivational quote/video, sourcing a 'Just Dance' or coming up with a completely different idea.

In Campbell House, we take immense pride in being a connected, inclusive, and supportive community that encourages every student to discover their individual talents and let their light shine.

In assembly this week, we were honoured to present a moving musical performance showcasing the incredible talents of our Campbell House members. This special performance was delivered in three languages and featured:

  • Leila Geere and Amelia Gibbons on vocals
  • Mia Geere and Reese Taylor on trumpet
  • Do Hee Lee singing in Korean.

Our students were joined by our talented Pastoral Care staff, Mr David Cunningham on acoustic guitar, and I played the piano while singing in Italian. Together we performed the beautiful Hallelujah, originally recorded by Leonard Cohen.

From excelling on the cross-country fields to shining on the stage, our students are given every opportunity to share their gifts and passions. Please join us in celebrating Campbell House's outstanding talents!

House Spirit In Term 1

As Term 1 concludes, our House Spirit activities have embodied the pillars of wellbeing and experience, fostering connection, resilience, and belonging. From spirited competitions like tug-of-war and relay races to mindfulness sessions and team building exercises, students have embraced collaboration, leadership, and personal growth. House meetings provided a space for reflection and support, strengthening bonds and reinforcing our College values.

A huge thank you to all students, staff, and House leaders for their passion and dedication, your energy has brought our Houses to life, and we look forward to another term of growth and unity!

Gratitude is a powerful emotion that deeply impacts our lives. It’s the quality of being thankful, recognising the good things we have and appreciating the people who make them possible. Gratitude is a simple yet profound way to acknowledge the positive influences around us.

This term, we've had many opportunities to nurture gratitude across the Clayfield College community, with students not only learning academic skills but also valuable life lessons about kindness, teamwork, and respect.

As Term 1 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to students, parents, and staff for working together toward our shared goal of fostering wellbeing through belonging. Together, we are strengthening the foundation for learning within our community.

As we head into the Easter holidays, I encourage you to take some time to reflect on the blessings in your life. The holidays offer a wonderful chance for all of us to pause and express gratitude for the people, experiences, and moments that bring us joy.

I wish you and your family a restful and joyful Easter break and look forward to the exciting adventures that Term 2 will surely bring!
