Grade 6 Camp: Canberra

Last week, our Grade 6 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure to Canberra, experiencing four days of learning, discovery, and teamwork. From the moment we boarded the plane on Tuesday, their enthusiasm and responsibility shone through, making them outstanding ambassadors for our school.

Our itinerary was packed with incredible experiences, each deepening our understanding of Australia’s history, government, and culture. A highlight was our visit to Parliament House, where students were fortunate to witness a sitting Parliament in action. They also had the unique opportunity to meet our local member, Michael Sukkar, who took the time to speak with them between sessions. It was a fantastic way to see democracy in action firsthand!

Visits to the High Court of Australia and the National Electoral Education Centre further strengthened our understanding of Australia’s legal and electoral systems. Exploring national landmarks such as the Australian War Memorial, ANZAC Parade, and Mount Ainslie Lookout allowed students to reflect on our country’s history. The National Capital Exhibition and the National Museum enriched our knowledge of Australia’s development, while a trip to the Royal Australian Mint gave insight into how our currency is made.

A highlight for many was the Australian Institute of Sport, where we saw elite athletes in action. Questacon was another favourite, with its hands-on science exhibits sparking curiosity and excitement. Evenings were just as eventful, featuring night orienteering at the Arboretum and an action-packed game of laser tag.

Throughout the trip, our students displayed maturity, respect, and teamwork, making the experience even more rewarding. It was a fantastic camp filled with learning, laughter, and memories that will last a lifetime.
