YEAR 8 KEY INFORMATION: WEEK 1

Welcome back to Term 2!  

I hope all our Year 8 students and their families enjoyed a restful Easter break and had the chance to recharge. It is hard to believe we are already into the second term of the year. This term brings fresh growth opportunities—both in the classroom and through the many extracurricular activities. I look forward to seeing our students continue to build on the positive connections and progress they made in Term 1. 

Year 8 Camp 

Parent Permission Slip 

This is a reminder that parent permission slips for the Year 8 Camp to Fitzroy Island have been sent home. They are due back by the end of Week 1. The camp will take place in Week 7, and returning the slip on time helps ensure that all planning and preparations can run smoothly. 

Tent Groups 

In the first few weeks of Term 2, students will be asked to form tent groups in preparation for camp. Each group should have four students, and at least one person will need to provide a tent. This will be organised at school to ensure everyone is included and prepared ahead of time.

Term 1 Student Reports  

Term 1 reports were released on Saturday, 5 April and can be accessed via your MyCE Parent App or the Parent Portal. Please click on the tab labelled 'The Learning Dashboard' to view your child's report. 

Please be aware that all secondary Colleges in the Cairns Diocese have now moved to a new reporting system called 'The Learning Dashboard' (TLD). For further information, please refer to the College Broadcast sent on Friday, 4 April 2025.   

Parent - Student - Teacher Conversations

Parent-Student-Teacher conversations will occur on Thursday, 01 May from 2:00 pm - 6.00 pm in the Hugh O'Brien Centre. For further information, please refer to the College Broadcast sent on Friday, 4 April 2025. 

Jewellery & Personal Grooming

Please see below the Jewellery and Personal Grooming requirements for the commencement of Term 2, as observed in the Student Expectations document found on the College website. 

Please keep in mind: Students who DO NOT meet these expectations at school's commencement will be withdrawn from recess breaks, with expectations to be adhered to by Thursday at 8:30 am. Further consequences that impact the usual learning program will follow after Thursday should these expectations not be met.  

JEWELLERY: 

Jewellery is to be discreet, meaning not particularly noticeable, and is limited to:

• 1x Watch
• 1x Silver or gold simple necklace with a religious medallion or cross is only worn under the College uniform and is not visible
• 1x Small silver or gold sleeper/stud in each earlobe only no larger than 5mm

PERSONAL GROOMING:

• Make-up, nail polish, and cosmetic accessories such as acrylic nails and eyelash extensions are unacceptable. Eyebrows are to be natural and discreet.
• Hair is to be of a conventional style, neat and of natural colour, shade and tone. Examples of unacceptable hairstyles include but are not limited to mullets, undercuts, shaved patterns, lines, tracks, corn rows, dreadlocks, marked contrasts in hair length, no shorter than a number 3 comb length.
• Students are to be clean-shaven.

CSPQ-Diocese of Cairns Parent Engagement Mini Conference

 Saturday, 31 May 2025, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm, St Augustine's College 

All Catholic school parents, carers, principals, and staff are warmly invited to a free event focused on supporting student learning and well-being. Enjoy complimentary morning tea and lunch while gaining valuable insights. You're welcome to attend the entire day or join the sessions that best suit your schedule. The event is open to families with children from Prep to Year 12.
