Students Reach New Heights

On Wednesday, September 4th, nineteen intrepid VET Sport & Recreation students embarked on an exhilarating journey to Melbourne, where they faced their fears and soared to new heights in a thrilling day of rock climbing. The group, eager for a day of challenge and adventure, engaged in a remarkable experience that tested their limits and strengthened their bonds.

At the heart of the adventure was the towering 16-meter climbing wall, a formidable vertical challenge that stood as a beacon of both excitement and trepidation. Paired up in teams, the students undertook the ultimate test of trust and teamwork. While one member of each pair tackled the ascent, their partner took on the crucial role of the belayer, ensuring safety and providing encouragement from the ground below.

The day's climbing activity was more than just a physical challenge; it was an opportunity for personal growth and mutual support. As the students scaled the wall, they encountered their fears head-on, pushing beyond their perceived limits. The thrill of reaching the top, coupled with the assurance of their partner's support fostered a profound sense of achievement and camaraderie.

Through this experience, the students conquered the heights and discovered new strengths within themselves and their peers. The walls they climbed were not merely physical obstacles but symbols of the resilience and trust they built throughout the day. Each successful ascent was a testament to their determination, collaboration, and the indomitable spirit of adventure that defined their remarkable day in Melbourne.

Environmental Science Mt Baw Baw Camp

In early August, the year 11 VCE Environmental Science class finished their semester-long study of Victoria's ecosystems by participating in an overnight Alpine Camp at Mt. Baw Baw. The class had so far studied and conducted fieldwork in Victoria's coastal, marine, desert, rainforest, heathland, wetland and forest ecosystems.

During the camp, the students used probes and other equipment to collect and test air, soil and water samples in order to assess how the biotic and abiotic factors within the Alpine environment differ from other Victorian ecosystems and to determine the impacts of human activity on these factors and its impact on biodiversity within the area.

Additionally, students had the opportunity to get up close and personal with Alpine Dingoes, participate in a night-time hike and spotlighting tour up the slope of the mountain and, of course, have a play in the snow!
