Stage 3

A message from Stage 3

Canberra 2024

Stage 3 set out on their traditional pilgrimage to the nation’s capital in week 6. After several COVID interrupted years, it was with great anticipation and excitement that 122 students and 9 teachers made the journey south for what was an amazing week. The photographs paint the picture of a week filled with rich learning, invaluable experiences and wonderful memories. All students represented our school fantastically and should be commended for their outstanding behaviour. The excursion forms a critical part of our Civics and Citizenship program of learning with students visiting Parliament House, The Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House) and The Australian War Memorial.  On top of these core venues we also enjoyed visiting places like the Botanical Gardens, Reconcilliation Place, The National Capital Exhibition, Questacon, The Australian Mint, The Australian Institute of Sport and The National Arboretum. A big thanks to our amazing students and a huge nod of gratitude to the bus drivers who safely delivered us to a variety of places all over Canberra.

Leadership 2025

The current Year 5 cohort will shortly become the senior students at Ben Venue Public School. The senior students in our school play a critical role in setting the culture for the behaviour and conduct of the rest of the school. In order to prepare our Year 5 students for this responsibility, all students participated in a leadership workshop last week. Year 5 students will also have the opportunity to lodge an Expression of Interest if they would like to join the leadership team in 2025. The leadership team assumes a variety of responsibilities like coordinating equipment borrowing, raising the flags each morning and participating in community service initiatives. In addition to tasks, these students are also given the chance to further develop their leadership skills through organised programs. Students interested in joining this leadership team will have an opportunity to write and submit their expression of interest during a follow-up workshop in Week 9 of this term.

Students' suitability for the leadership team will be assessed using the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated attitude of positivity toward school work and commendable work ethic.
  • A reputation for politeness and respect towards, students, staff and other people in our school.
  • Record of good behaviour and school attendance.
  • Attendance at, and demonstrated willingness to participate in BVPS sporting, academic, cultural, community service and other events.
  • Support and approval of their classroom teacher.
  • Support and approval of school executive (Assistant Principal and Principal).
