Stage 1

A message from Stage 1

Stage One has been fortunate enough to have 3 university students join us for the practical experience component of their studies.

Over the last few weeks we have welcomed Sophie Ward to S1S, Ivy Jurisich to S1M and Emily Henderson to S1F. They have experienced all facets of teaching, including some special events such as Book Week and designing and making robots! We will be very sad to say goodbye and hope we see them back at Ben Venue in the future.

Reminder: If you would like to meet with your child’s classroom teacher, please email the teacher or call the office to arrange an appointment. Thank you.

English

We are learning to understand, appreciate and create poetry.

We are learning new vocabulary words.

We are successful when we can:

  • explore how poets use language, rhythm, and imagery to express feelings and ideas
  • use alliteration, similes and personification in our poetry writing
  • use the words delay, gloomy, roam, aromatic, sap, trundle, muzzle and shivered in a sentence

Mathematics

We are learning to compare and record units of area.

We are successful when we can:

  • order my area measurements from smallest to largest
  • record the areas of two or more shapes or surfaces using sentences that state the number and type of units used
  • draw and/or label pictures or diagrams to show and compare areas

Integrated Studies

We are learning to identify hardware and software.

We are successful when we can:

  • identify the difference between hardware and software
  • explain how hardware and software work together to create a digital system
