Behaviour Flowchart

Hi Families,

We are excited to announce the implementation of our updated TPS Behaviour Flowchart this week across our school! A Behaviour Flowchart is an essential tool in creating a positive, supportive, and well-managed school environment. This tool is designed to provide clear, structured and consistent guidelines for ensuring calm and orderly classrooms. It will help ensure that all students understand expectations and are treated fairly and consistently with our school wide approach.

Below is the TPS Behaviour Flowchart and a brief overview of each step.

Top row = our values matched with their colour from our Values Matrix. If students are showing these values, they will receive class dojo/house token point and verbal praise.

Bottom row

First step: teacher gives the student an explicit reminder of our school values e.g. you are choosing to talk over the teacher's explicit instruction, which is not showing respect as you are not displaying active listening and interrupting the learning of others. I’m giving you this reminder as an opportunity to change that behaviour.

Second step: teacher explains to the student that their behaviour has not changed, so they will be relocated to another space in the classroom/yard to reflect and have a better opportunity to focus on their learning or making better choices. This is another opportunity to change the behaviour.

Third step:  student is still not changing their behaviour and is continuing to impact others, so they are sent to a ‘reflection support class’ (another classroom in the school) to work quietly. We are emphasising that this is not a chance to enter another classroom and see your friends, it is to complete the work. The student will spend time on the benches outside the office at next break time and miss out on a portion of their play. The classroom teacher will follow up with the student whilst they are on the benches for a reflection. Parents will be contacted.

Final step: if the behaviour continues in the reflection class, Leadership Support will be required.

Any unsafe or escalated behaviour = Leadership Support is required.

The flowchart was introduced to the students last week and each class has looked at it in detail, allowing a collaborative understanding of what it is and why it is required.

Kind regards

Brydie Walker
