Principal's Report
GOOD LUCK SAM AND GREG
It’s not common for schools to have a direct connection with the Olympics, but we’re very proud to have Sam Rizzo (past student) and Greg Smith (current dad) in Paris at the moment gearing up for competition at the Paralympics, which get underway this Thursday. Sam is competing in the T54 1500 metre and 5000 metre wheelchair event and will be racing on Friday night, whilst Greg is one of the coaches of the men’s wheelchair rugby side. We’ll be watching with interest and wish both the best of luck.
CONCERT UPDATE
It’s all very exciting that concert time has arrived. The Friday night is now a sellout, but there are tickets available for the Thursday matinee and evening performances. As communicated yesterday, given there are 150 tickets available for purchase at the Thursday night performance, the limit of five tickets has now been lifted. If you would like to purchase more tickets and have other family members, come along, please feel free to do so.
On Friday it was all action in the Bowling Club, with all classes running through their acts in front of Mr Skilbeck, Mrs Morgan, Mr Muldoon, Mr Rogers and Mrs Phillips. Mr Skilbeck, Mrs Morgan and Mr Muldoon were able to give some useful performance tips and seeing the acts will help Mrs Phillips fine tune the work of her student MCs and help Mr Rogers understand the backdrop routine. Overall, the acts are in really good shape and will be very entertaining. We know you’ll be very proud of your child’s performance.
A big thankyou to parents who have volunteered to help in a variety of ways. We’re still hoping to find another couple of helpers to help between 5:00pm and 6:00pm of the evening concerts so please get in touch if you could help out on either night.
Parent Information Booklet - Attached below is the Concert Parent Information Booklet, which includes most of what you need to know. Class teachers will have sent out specifics related to their act.
Following are a few key remainders for Concert Week:
Arrival Time (Evening Performances) – The nights will be quite long for the kids, so please don’t have them at the venue too early. The doors will not open before 5:30pm and guests have allocated seats, so there is no point arriving too early.
BBQ – Fed Uni is running the BBQ, which will be set up outside near the main entry. If you have ordered a sausage for your child, please have them eat it outside. To avoid messes and mishaps, it’s best we don’t have kids taking sausages into holding rooms.
No Photos and Video Footage – Please refrain from taking photos or footage at any of the performances. This is in the interests of privacy for all students. We will have a quality recording of the concert for all families to purchase. Pre-orders can be made through QKR.
Dropping Off Children to the Evening Performances – If you’re not staying, it’s fine to drop off your child at Founders Hall, following the route taken by the public bus. This means entering at gate 11 (not gate 1), driving past the uni pool entrance and pulling up on the bend immediately past the bus stop.
Please be mindful of not holding up the public buses, so you need to be prepared for a drop and run. There will be staff members waiting in fluro vests ready to greet your child and escort them to their holding room. The attached photos will help give you a sense of the entrance and drop off zone.
Collection of Students from Holding Rooms – After the final act, all students will return to their holding rooms with class teachers. We then ask one parent from each family to make their way to the relevant holding rooms to collect their children. We’re requesting just one parent to help reduce the crush of people in corridors. All students will be signed out by the class teacher at the holding room door. This will take some time, but that’s OK, as making sure all children are handed safely over to parents is the priority.
Tickets – To speed up the process of filling the auditorium, please come ready to show your ticket, whether that be in electronic form or a printed out copy.
Parking – Please refer to the map on the last page of the Concert Information Booklet. We will have a trail of balloons to follow from the main car park to Founders Hall, which will stop you getting lost. It is very important that no-one parks on the grass around Founders Hall. Given recent wet weather, that will result in damage to grassed areas.
Communicating the Finish Time – Those dropping children off for one of the evening concerts will need to know what time to return to collect their child. We will send out a Compass message with an estimated finish time once we get towards the end of the program.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with your child’s teacher or the office team if you have any questions. The kids are going to love the experience, as will you, so we are very pleased to be holding our first concert in six years.
Parent Surveys
Thanks to those that have already completed this survey. For those that haven’t, the closing date has now been extended until the end of Term three, Friday 20 September. We’d like to get lots of survey responses, so please consider taking 20 minutes to help us out with this.
Please check your Compass notifications with all the relevant login details.
