Book Week 2024
Author visits
During book week author and illustrator Martin Chatterton visited the Year 5/6 classes. Students enjoyed an afternoon engaging in his performance which was wide-ranging and at times funny. His session included insights into different kinds of writing, the intricacies of the publishing industry, the telling of tall tales, story ‘beginnings’ and personalised dissections of what goes into a book.
The Year 3/4 classes also enjoyed a visit during book week from Kenny Chan an illustrator who focus on ‘Manga’ style. Kenny teaches a quick and simple way to draw original characters in a Japanese comic style. Students learnt how to draw in the ‘Manga’ style as well as tricks to adding personality and humour to their drawings.
The F- 2 students thoroughly loved their visit from Valanga Khoza a storyteller and musician, who shaped tales of his life into captivating presentations. Valanga told stories of his childhood in rural South Africa, magically weaving traditional South African instruments into his performances.
Book week Parade
What a wonderful school celebration we had Wednesday morning at our annual book parade. The happiness that the students displayed on their faces coupled with the enjoyment of the festivities was a pure delight to see. Thank you to the many parents and students who put in a lot of work to get students ready for the parade.
Magic Show
On Tuesday we were entertained by some talented students who performed magic tricks. The MPR was full of students mesmerised by the amazing performances. Congratulations to our winners Olivia and Teddy for demonstrating tricks that had us all enthralled.
Book Fair
Thank you once again to Robyn G and her team of helpers who ran another successful book fair. Their hard work in making it an inviting atmosphere made it a popular place to visit during book week.
