Captains Report Week 6 19th - 23rd August
Hi everyone,
It has been a busy term so far and it looks like everyone is enjoying being at school.
Student Wellbeing
PBL Focus: Last week and this week we have been talking about how ‘to solve problems calmly when playing outside during break times’. Each morning out Year 6 leaders put an announcement over the PA to give reminders to everyone about how they can solve problems when they are outside at break times.
Over the last few weeks we have been talking alot about Teasing, Banter and Roasting. All class have been discussing with their teachers what teasing is and how it makes people feel. We have been working hard to ‘Turn Off Teasing’ at St Kevin’s as we know that we should treat people the way we want to be treated.
Last week was ‘Bullying No Way’, a week of National action against bullying. We had a different topic each day to focus on each day and talk about. These are the topics that we talked about:
- Challenging stereotypes
- Promoting empathy
- Embracing Diversity
- Developing positive relationships
- Providing and seeking support
After talking about teasing and bullying, each class has made a commitment, pledge or motto to ‘stamp out bullying’ and ‘turn away from teasing’.
Here are the different messages from each class:
Prep M: Before you speak you need to think and be smart. It's hard to fix a wrinkled heart
1DS: We pledge to speak kindly to each other all the time.
1GS: In 1GS we commit to no teasing in the classroom and the school
2P: Welcome everybody
Be nice to everyone
No breaking people’s heart
No excluding
No hitting
No cheating in games
Everyone is welcome
3/4CC
3/4F
5/6GS: We came up with a quote to guide us “ We are all in the bowl of vegetable soup together, each person adding to the flavour. Although we may no like the taste, embrace something new”
Religion
Over the last two weeks the whole school have been to mass to celebrate the Feast Day of St Mary McKillop who is Australia's only saint. We learnt how Mary opened schools for poor children and never gave up even when people told her ‘no’.
We also went to mass for the Feast of the Assumption which was when Mary went to heaven.
100 Days of school for Preps
It was also really exciting to see our Prep Buddies celebrating 100 Days of school. They all came to school dressed up as ‘old people’ and had fun doing activities all around the number 100. Congratulations on the Preps being 100 days, smarter, brighter, and older.
Book Week
Today has been an exciting day as we are celebrating Book week. We started off in the stadium with a parade of student and teachers costumes. Everyone looked really great and lots of teachers dressed up with a Disney theme. We had an author called Mary Anastasiou come and visit us and she talked about how created her books. When Mary was younger she wanted to sing and dance on TV, so she had lessons. This was the inspiration for her first book that she wrote.
We hope that everyone enjoys the rest of the term.
Have a great week,
Lucas, Aria, Liesel and Alex
