Week 6, Term 3
In Topic this term, we have been looking at how the First Peoples of Australia lived before European settlers arrived, the reasons for the journey of the First Fleet and the impact of the first contact between European settlers and the First Peoples of Australia.
This fortnight, students will be working in pairs to show their understanding of these topics by creating their own shoebox diorama. Each diorama will need to recreate a scene from the perspective of either First Peoples of Australia, or European settlers/convicts and provide a written explanation of what is happening at that point in Australian history.
Although most supplies will be provided in the classroom, each group will need to provide their own shoebox and are more than welcome to bring along any other materials that they would like to use from home!
Camp is fast approaching, and we are expecting to receive confirmation of our activities list by the end of this week. If you haven't done so already, please hand in your medical form to your child's classroom teacher and provide consent on Compass (payment is due by Wed, 11th September).
Mathematics: In our Applied Maths sessions, students will be completing their Maths Learning Task for the term where they will need to create a bird's eye view of their dream bedroom. This will also involve them making decisions on the furniture and features to be placed into a scale floor plan. In Fluid Groups, we will review the topic of 'Division'.
Writing & Reading: Students have done an excellent job of reading and writing a variety of different poem types! This fortnight we will continue to review a variety of VCOP skills as well as some of the different poems that we have already explored.
Topic: Please see above for further information and keep an eye out for the next newsletter with updates on these exciting projects!
