Principal's Report

 - Tania Sorbello

What a jam-packed week we have had! Our week began with wonderful Professional Development for our teachers around the delivery of the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. These sessions provided staff with deep learning around the theoretical underpinnings of the IB programme and then contextualised this into how it will look in practice at FNPS. Some of the feedback from our teachers included acknowledging how closely aligned the IB PYP is to our current practice and how exciting it is to be deepening our knowledge and understanding of the IB philosophy.

Yesterday we had a group of 53 Year 4 – 6 students represent FNPS at the District Athletics Carnival following on from a very successful school carnival last week. The students represented our school positively, and actively supported each other throughout the day; displaying impressive sportsmanship as always. Of these students, we now have 16 students moving on to the Divisional stage of the athletics competition. From the 800m and 1500m races, to hurdles, relays, discuss, shot put, high jump and triple jump, we wish all of our competitors all the best in their upcoming events.

Fancy Fun Run

Congratulations to all of our students for their participation in today’s Fancy Fun Run. With all proceeds being donated to RecLink, we are proud to announce that our community has raised over $3,100 to be provided this national charity to support in the delivery of a variety of sport and recreation activities that positively impact communities.

Wear it Purple Day

Also today, 30th of August 2024, the FNPS community joined LGBTQIA+ youth and allies to celebrate ‘Wear It Purple Day’ as thousands of schools, community organisations, universities, and workplaces prepare to celebrate nationwide.

Originally founded by students, Wear It Purple Day has become an international movement of celebration and support. By wearing purple, Australians demonstrate to rainbow young people that they are seen, supported and respected acknowledging that everyone has the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming.

“This year’s theme is "Your Passion, Your Pride", with artwork by Nicky Tsekouras, winner of Wear It Purple’s Youth Action Council (YAC) Design Competition to create a campaign message and artwork in celebration of LGBTQIA+ people openly and visibly achieving their dreams in sport, art, science and more!” Your Passion Your Pride - 2024 Theme — WEAR IT PURPLE

Hats are Back!

Just a reminder that as we move towards Spring, the time has come for students to begin wearing hats. In line with the FNPS SunSmart Policy, children are required to wear their hats when playing outside from next  Monday 2nd September 2024. Hats are available for purchase at the front office if required.

Parent Opinion Survey

A reminder to those parents who have received an invitation to participate in the 2024 Parent Opinion Survey, that the closing date for the survey has now been extended until the end of term. For those families who are randomly selected, we hope that you take the time to participate so that we are able to gain an understanding of our community’s views and help us shape decisions for the future. The survey doesn’t take too long to complete and we would really appreciate if you could take the time to provide us with your views.

Go gently,

Tania
