First XI Football QLD Tour
The St Pius X First XI, along with coaches and teachers, gathered at the airport bright and early for their flight to Brisbane on Tuesday morning. Upon arrival, we got set up in our rooms in the heart of Brisbane and had time for a training session at Nudgee College to get familiar with the fields and prepare for the games ahead. We stocked up on groceries for the week, had a team meeting and explored the Brisbane night life before getting some much-needed sleep for the early start. As you read this, the team would have finished their 4th game and are looking towards the semi-finals. Wish us luck!
Winter Sport
To finish up the term, the winter sports teams were scheduled to have their first trial games this past Saturday. Unfortunately, due to unpredictable and severe weather conditions, many games were called off. However, this did not stop our 1st and 2nds rugby teams as well as the 16s and 15s, as they took off to play St Aloysius. What followed was an outstanding display of Pius rugby talent, as all four teams playing came away with dominant wins over their opponents, capped off by the 1st XV putting on 50+ points.
Parliament House Visit
Last Thursday 4 April, College Captain Quinton Crispe and Vice-Captain Jose Monk were invited by Wiloughby Member Tim James MP to a high school leader’s forum at NSW Parliament. Quinton and Jose were joined by various schools located in the Willoughby electorate including Willoughby Girls High School, Mercy College and Cammeraygal High School. The group of student leaders were facilitated the opportunity to ask questions and comment on a range of matters including mental health, housing, cost of living, democracy and civil debate. In addition to this, the group were able to interact and engage with other student leaders and continue conversations regarding our leadership experience.
da Vinci Decathlon
The College was very proud of the achievements of our students who travelled to Knox College to compete in the da Vinci Regional Decathlon. Taking on a variety of challenging and innovative tasks, ranging from codebreaking and math to cartography.
The Year 10 team placed Second overall, coming First in Cartography, Science and Maths. And the Year 11 team placed Third overall, coming First in Cartography, Maths and Code Breaking.
