From the Assistant Principal, Cocurricular

My thanks to all who have been involved in cocurricular activities this term.  The benefit the students get from their involvement in all things cocurricular makes all the hard work worthwhile.

As we move into Term 2 and the start of the winter sports season proper, please ensure that your sons have the correct uniform and equipment for their respective activities.

Have a very restful break, and I look forward to seeing you all during Term 2.

Congratulations to Nick Gladen

On Tuesday of this week, Swimming Captain, Nicholas Gladen won GOLD in the 50m backstroke at Australian Age Championships held on the Gold Coast.  Congratulations go to Nicholas as we wish him well for the remainder of the championships!

The Independent Sporting Association (ISA) Strategic Review

The Independent Sporting Association (ISA) sporting program has been a key feature of the NSW School Sport landscape for more than 30 years, providing students from member schools with invaluable opportunities for developmental sports participation in a healthy, competitive environment.

As part of our ongoing commitment to meet the evolving needs of stakeholders, particularly the changing preferences of students regarding sporting opportunities, the ISA Heads of School have agreed to initiate a strategic review of the ISA Sport Program.

As a member school of the Independent Sporting Association (ISA), we are participating in this strategic review and we are inviting your participation and input.  This research will inform the ongoing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our community, particularly the changing preferences of students regarding sporting opportunities.

To facilitate this process and provide an independent perspective, the ISA Board has engaged McCrindle Research to assist with the necessary research in ISA’s strategic review. As part of this review, McCrindle have prepared a survey to be completed by parents/caregivers and students themselves. The data received will not include any identifying information and will be used only in aggregate.

The survey, which can be accessed through the attached link, will take approximately 5 minutes to complete and will cover themes such as your satisfaction, expectations, and sentiment toward various elements of ISA.

Your feedback is valuable to us, and we look forward to using it to guide ISA into the future.

Cross Country

On Sunday, 7 April, 12 Pius students and 2 of our Pius old boys who currently coach cross country, Matthew North and Dominic Panozzo, set out to run the ‘5km Wave A’ Fun Run for Run2Cure, a fundraiser for Neuroblastoma Cancer research.

Accompanied by beautiful weather, we saw excellent results with all students achieving Top 10 within their age groups.

Here are the results.

A huge congratulations to our athletes and coaches. Thank you also to Mr Steinman for accompanying and supporting our team. Here are some photos that highlight this day. We look forward to our next fun run taking place on Sunday 19 May - more details to follow.

PLAYER CONFIDENCE

We foster creativity by providing the players technical building blocks & encouraging creative actions in developmentally appropriate games. Our games are designed to be fun, challenging and to reward success and risk-taking.

TEAMWORK

Small group tactics and principles of play are taught in attack and defence by utilizing the structure of the many small sided games, which have made the Coerver® Curriculum so unique and recognised as the world’s leading technical football program.

SPORTSMANSHIP

We value winning but not more than character and effort. We encourage paying respect to players, parents, coaches and referees. Sportsmanship is emphasized to develop the whole person and not just the player.

Rugby

Results: 6 April

With the sun appearing in dramatic fashion last Saturday, St Pius X College had the opportunity to field four teams against St Aloysius. Considering the poor weather the day before the season opener couldn't have gone any better as the field dried up and playing conditions were at its finest. All four teams including the 15A's, 16A's, 2nd XV and 1st XV played very well coming away with four substantial victories.

Thank you to all the students, supporters, and coaches for making the day the great success that it was!
