Junior School Bible Liturgy

It was with great pleasure that the College gifted a Bible to each Year 5 and each new Year 6 during the Junior School Bible Liturgy on Tuesday. The liturgy opened with the following:

'We gather today to gift to you the Word of God. It is the living Word of God, in which God will speak to you through every page and every Word. All you need to do is to be still, open and willing to let the Spirit connect with you through what is written.

For Edmund Rice, his Bible was rarely out of his hands. He prayed the scriptures. He read them. He meditated on them. He acted on them - they literally shaped his vision that lead to a global network of schools seeking to transform the head, hearts and hands of students.

As you become custodians of the Word of God today, you will join your spiritual ancestors of Abraham and Sarah, Moses and David, Mary and Joseph, and Peter and Paul. May this sacred time together be inscribed on your hearts for many years to come.'

Anthony Parissis, Ethan Rahme, Ethan Auer and Nathan Formosa, as representative spiritual big brothers from Year 11, handed each student their Bible. The Junior School choristers lifted the liturgy with beautiful singing that was matched in turn by the collective vocal efforts of the entire Junior School. To each recipient we offer congratulations on commencing their adventure with the Word of God.

Catholic Care Solidarity Days

On Monday 15 and Thursday 18 April in the first week of the holidays, several students from Year 10 and Year 11 will be accompanying Mr Balboa to participate in a Centacare Solidarity Day, as part of the College Faith in Action Suite. The day involves participating in activities in accompaniment with the workers at Centacare Industries with different abilities. Activities will include light packing within the factory, participating in team building games and plenary forums with the workers. Please keep them in your prayers.

Mother’s Day and Biggest Morning Tea Fundraiser

A reminder of the warm invitation to all mothers and all who maternally care for young people to join us for the St Pius X Mother’s Day Mass at Oxford Falls on Wednesday 8 May at 9:00 am.

This celebration of the vital role that mother figures play in the holistic development of young people, will be followed by The Biggest Morning Tea as a fundraiser to support the Cancer Council. Please share this appeal with family and friends as we seek to make a significant contribution to cancer research.

IFTAR Dinner

On Monday evening, St Pius X College and Mercy College travelled together to Amity College in Auburn to join an Iftar Dinner. For Muslims, Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal in Ramadan at the time of adhan (call to prayer) of the Maghrib prayer. Students were inspired by the warmth of hospitality and deeply appreciative at the opportunity to share an interfaith dialogue experience.

Sarto Collective

Due to growing requests by students for a Bible Study group, the College is excited to announce the commencement of the ‘Sarto Collective’.

This group has been formed to provide an opportunity for students to meet weekly in the chapel to share and discuss their BIble Study, while also providing an opportunity for a sharing of faith, testimony and breaking open the ‘big questions of life’.

The logo for the Sarto Collective features three key elements:

1 - It bears the Lion of St Mark. This comes from Giuseppe Sarto’s crest when he was elected Pope Pius X. This links back to his time of service as the Bishop of Venice. The paw of the lion rests on the Gospels which will be a core focus of the Sarto Collective

2 - It bears the keys of St Peter. Peter the apostle as the first Pope, offers a core role model for the collective. One who bore a passionate faith, but like many of us, experienced the struggles of denying Jesus when he lost his way in times of doubt. He represents the truth seeker in all of us, who lived a life dedicated to seeking Christ.

3 - The four colours used represent the Four Touchstones, reminding the group to strive for liberation from all that denies human dignity, for an inclusive community, and for a world that champions solidarity and justice within a Gospel Spirituality.
