Living with Strength and Kindliness
This week we are gathering to celebrate our Foundation Day.
This day of celebration and joy brings together our student and staff community. We are blessed to have Father Novie be part of this celebration as we gather in liturgy to commemorate the legacy of the Brigidine Sisters and look forward to how we can be people of hope, living with strength and kindliness.
Our student led mini market is a wonderful opportunity for our students to organise stalls and experiences led by their LM staff. Proceeds from this celebration will be donated to Project Compassion.
As a community, St Joseph’s College made a commitment many years ago to source ethically produced easter eggs when purchasing for our staff and students. Every year we take small steps towards this commitment. This year, in light of our Foundation Day celebrations and the difficulty in sourcing appropriate eggs in the required amounts, we have made the decision to donate to Project Compassion instead. This year as we work towards animating our theme of hope and launching us into a brighter future, we continue to look for ways to do this in light of all that is happening and within the celebrations of the history of our College.
This week is also the last week of learning for our students and it is timely for us as a community to reflect on how we will celebrate Holy Week and Easter. The week preceding Easter Sunday encompasses the days that cover the story of Jesus' death; from Palm Sunday (Sunday of the Week before) to The Last Supper (Thursday night) to Jesus’ crucifixion (Good Friday) and then to His resurrection from the dead on the third day (Easter Sunday). For Christians this is an opportunity to connect in prayer through engagement in the sacred rituals and masses that retell and share the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
The Easter holidays are also often a time to spend with family and friends, catching up and connecting with people who are special to us. They can also be an opportunity to pause and participate in activities that bring us joy.
We hope these holidays are a source of faith, love, joy, connection and rejuvenation for our College community.
