Library News

Last week of Term 1 already? Time flies when you’re having fun… and reading a good book! We have had a lot going on in both libraries across the two campuses, with lots of classes coming and going and enjoying the spaces. Have you checked out our new displays? Here’s a run down of what our staff have been up to these past two weeks.

St Patrick’s Day!

St Patrick’s Day is a special day celebrated at St Joseph’s College Echuca. For one thing, one of our fantastic community Houses is named in honour of the wonderful St Pat, therefore, we take the opportunity every March 17 to honour his legacy in the Library.

As St Patrick’s Day is a traditional Irish holiday, you may have noticed, among the shamrocks and rainbows, the great display recognising acclaimed Irish authors, including Oscar Wilde, Bram Stoker and Anne Enright, to name a few. Which books from these famous Irish authors have you read and enjoyed? Let us know!

Life Skills

We have a new non-fiction genre in the Brigidine Library "Life Skills" which includes books on finance, relationships, mental health and personal growth. Some are classics like "How to win friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie and others with catchy titles like "How to be a Productivity Ninja". Others like "The Barefoot Investor" by Scott Pape go into investment and finance. Books to uplift, inspire, motivate and inform with a pop-psychology feel.

Recommendation of the Week!

Our Recommendation of the Week display wall is now on showcase at Kildare Library. Last week, our recommendation of the week was a fantastic novel by Kerry Drewery, titled The Last Paper Crane, recommended by Mrs Oliver. This week, we asked the wonderful Miss Nicholls for her recommendation and she chose:

THE HAPPIEST REFUGEE

a memoir written by Australia’s famous comedian, Ahn Do.

With much warmth and spirit, Anh Do shares his journey from a refugee boat to a well known comedian in Australia as his family tries to escape the aftermath of the Vietnamese war. It manifests the hard journey they went through to come to Australia and finally find a place they could call home.

Tell us your thoughts on this recommendation, we’d love to hear from you!

Student recommendations

SJC Library staff would like to thank all the students who have been posting up their own book recommendations on our recommendation wall. We encourage everyone to check out the wall and add to it. We love hearing what you have read and enjoyed!

Easter Colouring Competition

The Kildare Colouring Competition concludes this week and last entries are to be posted by the end of the day on 20 .

There are 3 prizes up for grabs! We can’t wait to see what our creative Kildare students can produce!

The library staff at Kildare and Brigidine would like to wish everyone in the St Joseph’s College community a safe and happy Easter.

See you all in Term 2!
