Year 7 Camp

It's been two weeks since our Year 7 students returned from their first camp at secondary school! Here's a reflection from one of our students about what a great experience it was!

Year 7 camp was great at helping us experience so many new things, making new friendships along the way and making old friendships stronger. The camp we went to was called 'Camp Weekaway' which was so much fun! The bus ride there was a bit boring, but we got to stop at Heathcote and run around on the footy oval. When we finally got there, we saw the 1st group doing their activities. We had about an hour to catch up with all our friends from the 1st group. While they were eating their lunch, we were able to go to our cabins and set up. Everyone was so excited to see who was in their cabins and potentially their new friends. After that we all said goodbye to group one and went to see what our activity groups were. Each group had something different on each day. Once we had all finished our first activity afternoon tea was being served. We had chocolate cake and fruit. The cake was so good. For dinner we had pineapple pizza and garden and/or potato salad, then for dessert we had a chocolate tart. Once dinner was over everyone had a shower and headed back to the main area and was ready for mini-Olympics. Some of the favourite challenges were the minti wrapper challenge and the marshmallow stack, also the tennis ball challenge and the longest line. After that we all hopped into bed. It was quite noisy but eventually everyone fell asleep.

The next day was a lot colder than when we arrived. Breakfast was served at 7:30am and we had scrambled eggs and apple or orange juice. Then the groups split off and headed over to their activities. For morning tea, we had banana cake and some fruit, also we got about half an hour of free time. When we have free time we can play basketball, volleyball, or gaga ball. For lunch we had burgers and if you weren’t at the front of the line it took forever to get your food. Afternoon tea was even better, we had vanilla cake and some more fruit. We went back to the different activities, and we heard that some teachers had tried out some of the activities. Dinner was amazing we had spaghetti and for dessert we had jelly. After dinner we could watch a movie, watch footy, or have free time outside.

It was finally our last day at Camp Weekaway, for breakfast we had pancakes and for morning tea we had cookies and some more fruit. I think the best activities were the possum glider, laser tag, flying fox, and hut building but everyone had so much fun at every activity.

Year 7 camp was such a great experience for us, it helped us step out of our comfort zone, make new friends and have so much fun!
