School Based Traineeships & Apprenticeships
At Lalor North Secondary College, Year 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to study a VET Course as one of their subjects, gaining a qualification while still at school.
We have two fortunate students, Nathan Balfour and Hugh Christian both of Year 12 VCE VM, who are completing a School Based Apprenticeship & Traineeship (SBAT), which is a level up from your typical VET Course.
Both students have been signed up as an employee, completing paid on the job training while also completing their Year 12 schooling!
Nathan Balfour, is completing a Headstart SBAT in Cert III Plumbing, employed with C.A.B. Plumbing Pty Ltd and studying his trade at Melbourne Polytechnic.
“I like how it’s all different stuff and you do something different every day. Usually I get to change over hotties (hot water system) and help the boys load and pack the van. Then we get to the site, sign in and then we start the job...”
Hugh Christian, is completing an SBAT in Cert III Information Technology, employed at LNSC IT Dept and studying with Integrity Business.
“Here at Lalor North, I complete a wide range of jobs, from building computers from scratch, to configuring ethernet ports for a wide range of internet availability. There’s also the daily job like assisting staff and students with their technical problems.”
Well done Nathan and Hugh! Bright futures ahead for both of you.
