The Wonder of Outdoors

At Emmaus Early Learning Centre, we are blessed with many play spaces for our children, including indoor, undercover and outdoor learning environments.

Each area is designed and positioned to provoke curiosities and wonder during children’s uninterrupted play.  Each learning environment is supported by an educator, who partners with children to extend and challenge children’s understandings and knowledge of the world around them.

Within Class Three – Yellow, we have been reimagining our outdoor learning environment alongside our other two classes. We have been on a journey of becoming more intentional with everything we plan, and implement. We were able to capture a wonderful example of being in that moment. This was captured in the sandpit area, where it was discovered that underneath the bridge was blocked with sand.

Educators partnered with the children to problem solve, and it actually resulted with one of educators taking their shoes off and getting their hands dirty and being in that moment with our learners.

We capture valuable learning whilst engaging in the outdoor environment, children have shown a great peace and purpose. The outdoors is an adaptable learning environment where a diverse range of learning opportunities are facilitated and modelled.

The wonder of outdoors is our commitment, that we view our learning environments as intentional and purposeful and that children are the architects in their learning designing and implementing a landscape of endless curiosities and wonder.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it. Then shall the trees of the forest sing for joy. Psalm 104:1-6 (Berean Standard Bible)
