Environment and Sustainability Term 1 News
Firstly a big thankyou to the school community that volunteered at the working bee this term, it was so wonderful for the staff and students to return to school to see the Kitchen Garden and School Garden look so amazing! We have to also thank Yvonne, our Garden Club volunteer who looks after the garden with much care along with Jack and Mark who also support the garden. We are very grateful for their support.
The students have been busy at Garden Club this term planting, nurturing and exploring the seasonal changes within the garden. Our baby sunflowers welcomed us back to school and have been a place of wonder and awe for those visiting the garden. This term we have harvested apples, potatoes, tomatoes and many herbs. We have planted zucchini, lettuce, beetroot and beans ready for Farm to Table. We have collected seeds and explored life cycles. The students have enjoyed harvesting and taking home some much loved Lemon Myrtle from our very giving Lemon Myrtle tree. The leaves are very calming and can also be used to make a calming tea.
We look forward to great gardening weather for Garden Club for Term 2! We would love to welcome any new volunteers to the garden. Please contact the office if you are interested in helping out.
Clean Up Day
The whole school took part in national Clean Up Day and did an amazing job picking up rubbish from around the school. Each class participated and succeeded in making their allocated area lovely and clean, well done to everyone that helped out and remember cleaning up can happen everyday!
Rubbish Free Lunches
We would also like to thank families for supporting our Rubbish Free program. We encourage families to pack lunches with little or no packaging to ensure our school is kept tidy and clean and to support the natural environment. We are currently taking a tally to see which class has the highest number of rubbish free lunches. The winners will receive The Sparkly Lunch Box Award!
Thanks for supporting our school and the wider environment.
