Music Update

As term one draws to a close, we’d like to thank you all for your patience and your practice. This term our Concert, Symphonic, and Big Bands have dived right in and have been learning lots of new music. Our Music Night went well, and we’ve got lots of new students in the pipeline. The Music Support Group have competed two fund-raisers already for the year – with more to come next term (bring on the Chocolate!), and last night’s Talent Quest was a great success on all accounts.  A big shoutout to all those families who donated to the raffle and to those who went and above and beyond this term.

Beginner Students

We’ve had a bit of a choppy start to our 2024 intake but by now all students who filled in an Expression of Interest Form have had an acceptance email go home.

If you filled in an Expression of Interest Form but haven’t received an acceptance email, please contact Keyna Masin (keyna.masin@education.vic.gov.au).

For those who have received their acceptances please take the time to read through the email and confirm your child’s position (via email) over the holidays if you have not already done so.

Lessons will commence in Week 1 of Term 2 

Apologies to those students who were supposed to have their first lesson in the last week of this term, unfortunately due to illness timeframes have had to change.   Beginner Band will still start in Week 1 of Term 2. Please do not panic or feel underprepared – we do not expect students to be able to play anything when we start band. It is a process of learning – we start with where to sit and how to follow a conductor.

Revised Beginner Timeframe Holidays

Confirm place in the program, purchase/hire an instrument (if not on a scholarship instrument).

Week 1

Instrumental Lessons commence/ resume (student's who have yet to receive a scholarship instrument will do so in their first lesson), Beginner Band starts  Thursday 3.30m to 4.15pm. 

Week 2

ANZAC DAY THURSDAY 25th (pupil free day)

Week 3 Week 4

BEGINNER BAND CAMP May 6th, 7th, & 8th 

Concert Band

After a few date changes, the Concert Band Tour is now confirmed for Term Three (September 2-6). Rehearsals will start back in Week 1 of Term 2 as we work towards developing a tour repertoire. 

Symphonic Band

Our first performance of the year is coming up on April 26th when we play at the school’s ANZAC service. Session One will be a rehearsal with the service taking place in Session Two. Full Band uniform (all blacks) is required. 

Rehearsals for band will be commencing first week back. The Band timetable is as follows:

Symphonic Band

*Monday 3.30-4.45pm

Concert Band

*Wednesday 3.30- 4.30pm

Beginner Band

*Thursday 3.30 – 4.15pm

Big Band

Thursday Lunch time (11.20am – 12pm) *these band times include a 10 minute snack break at the start. 

A calendar of dates will go home in early Term 2.
