State Championships Bound - Junior Boys Win Lawn Bowls @ Hume Region

It was a massive day for our school at the Wangaratta Bowls Club today as 13 students across 4 teams competed in the Hume Region Lawn Bowls tournament.

Our Junior Boys team (Jeremy Bagley, Clarence Lampa and Zach Wills) won their competition emphatically, earning themselves the title of Hume Region Champions, making them the best from over 40 secondary schools in the region.

They've also booked themselves a place at the State Championships in Melbourne in May - the 1st W.H.S team to achieve that feat so far in 2024.

Remarkably, our Junior Girls team (Liv Day, Kaity Ford and Taylah Wyatt) finished 2nd place in the same competition, and actually played against the boys in the Final.

A sterling effort from both Junior teams who are all Year 8 students, competing in a field which included Year 9s. Both pennants now hang proudly in our Sport Stadium.

Our Senior teams also competed well despite also being bottom-agers - the Boys (Year 11s Ryley Downing, Tom Ford, Ned O'Kane) and the Girls (Year 10s Ava Byrne, Jada Ryan and Pieper Gottschling, plus Year 9 Milly O'Kane). The Girls were good enough to put a team of Year 11 Boys from Galen College in a casket on their way to 3rd Place.

Special thank you to Leah Anderson for looking after our kids across the day.

Thank you as always to our great kids for competing and representing the school in a sterling manner today.
