How to make the most of Parent Teacher Learning Conversations

We are excited to be able to meet with parents at the end of Week 11 to help support you and your child with their learning this year.

Today I wanted to share some suggestions for how you can make the most of the time you have with your child's teacher.

  • 15 minutes is not a lot of time together. So while we love having a general chat with you, during these conversations, we encourage you to focus on your child's wellbeing and learning so that we can make the most of this time.
  • If you have any specific questions about how your child is going, email them to your child's teacher in advance so that they can factor in time to discuss your concerns during the conversation.
  • Learning Conversations are a great time to share with your child's teacher about any holidays, absences or changes in family circumstances, housing or friendships that you know of which could help their teacher support them.
  • If you do have anything to share, I would encourage you to write these down prior to the conversation or even email them to the teacher as well so that you don't forget what you are hoping to share.
  • Ask questions if there is anything that you do not understand or want more detail about. Our teachers are happy to share but sometimes we don't realise that what makes sense to us as teachers can sometimes not make sense to you as parents.
  • Listen for celebration points in what your child's teacher shares and celebrate those with your child . Our teachers really try to focus on the growth we are seeing in your child, and it is such a powerful, affirming moment for a child when they know that their teacher has shared positive information with their parent.

If you haven't booked your time yet, please make sure to check the email that was sent last week or contact the Front Office.

Thank you for your support and willingness to work with us as we support your child in their learning journey.

Please note that child minding will be available for children who attend St Paul only.
