Career experience

Two of our Senior School students have ventured into the professional world of work as part of the College's Career Experience program.

Temwa Makalani (Year 12) and Billie Salter (Year 10) recently participated in a day-long immersion at Hobart's Icon Cancer Centre, which provided them with a fascinating insight into the realm of healthcare as a potential future career pathway.

The Career Experience program is offered to students in Years 10 to 12 at the College wanting to gain first-hand experience of the workplace to help them with their career choice and expand their networks.

Student chat goes global

The College's Year 4 students have tapped into a new way to improve their digital literacy and communication skills—all with the click of a mouse.

Putting a virtual spin on the traditional pen pal programs of the past, the students have been interacting with Year 4 students more than 8,000 kilometers away in Tokyo on video chat directly from their computer screens.

The activity opened up a world of possibilities for the students, who delighted in sharing experiences of living and culture that are unique to their home countries.

Topics of conversation included the current seasons, favourite foods, places to visit in Tasmania and subjects taught in Year 4, with many similarities surprising the students despite living in different countries so far apart!
