Stormy Conditions, Steely Determination at SMR Cross Country!
Resilience was on full display as 23 students took on the Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR) Cross Country Championships in some of the toughest conditions yet — with wild winds, rain, and even hail battering the course throughout the day.
Despite the extreme weather, our athletes rose to the challenge with outstanding performances, and we're proud to announce that eight students have qualified for the State Championships.
Some notable results are below
Eliza A (Year 8) – 1st place in the 12–13 Girls 3km race with a brilliant time of 12:52
Joel (Year 9) – Clocked an impressive 11:43 in the 3km event to finish in 2nd place by 0.4sec
Kahsia (Year 9) – Ran a great race in a strong field to finish 4th in a time of 14:31
Cooper B (Year 12) – Took to the start line yet again for what was meant to be the 5km course in the senior 17–20 Boys division, however after some wrong turns in a twisting course, the entire field ended up running just under 4km. Regardless, Cooper finished in 4th with a time of 13:38 and has qualified for the State champs for a 3rd straight year!
All of our runners showed exceptional commitment and school pride and should be very proud of their efforts.
We wish our state qualifiers all the best as they prepare for the next race on the 24th July at Yarra Valley.
