Girls in Physics Breakfast

A few weeks ago, the year 12 female Physics students got to attend the ‘Girls in Physics Breakfast’, hosted by VICPhysics held at the Australian Synchrotron.

At the breakfast students shared tables with at least three women who are either in a career in physics or engineering, or are at university as an undergraduate or a postgraduate or who work at the Australian Synchrotron. The students have a chance to ask questions about their careers and what study at university is like.  Our students were also seated with students from other schools.

One of the many highlights of the breakfast was to hear from the Keynote Speakers: Dr Amelia Lui and Dr Taïssa Danilovich, from Monash University They spoke on Shedding new light on glass and The dusty ends of Sun-like stars.

There was time mingle and speak to the many women present on there careers/research/study.

We were also lucky enough to have a tour of the Synchrotron and hear a few stories about what they do, past experiments (like proving Pharlap really was poisoned with Arsenic!)   It was hard to drag them (and me) away to get back to school.
