TPPS Writers' Festival - Mon 28th July - Fri 1st August
The 2025 Templestowe Park Primary School Writers’ Festival will take place from Monday 28th July – Friday 1st August in the Library.
The Library will be open to the community from 8:30 – 8:50am and 3:30 – 3:50pm every day during that week so our community can read the amazing stories, reports, poems and letters that our students have written in 2025.
The bi-annual Writers’ Festival first took place in 2017 developing into a very popular event on the Templestowe Park PS calendar. The Festival provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate the talented writing of all students and to acknowledge the outstanding young authors we have at our school. Every student, from Grades Prep to 6, submits their very best piece of writing to the festival with all pieces being displayed in the school library for the students and community to read and celebrate.
A selection panel will read all shortlisted student pieces and then select the very best ones to be published in the collected works of the festival. This provides our talented authors with their very first chance of having their work published. Each winner receives a copy of the collected works; we also provide copies for all classrooms, the school library and for the community to purchase.
Writers’ Festival favourite book character dress up day
On Friday 1st August, we will be hosting a Writers’ Festival favourite book character dress up day. This will replace our Book Week dress up day. We invite all students to dress up and we will have a special parade on the day.
We are so excited for our Writers’ Festival. It is going to be an amazing weeklong celebration of writing at TPPS.
Maths Talent Quest (MTQ)
The MTQ is an annual competition run by the Maths Association of Victoria (MAV) open to all primary and secondary students. Students select their own investigation topic based on their personal learning interests and apply mathematics in context. They understand and discover how mathematics is used and found in the world around them, providing a positive experience that reduces the barriers to learning in mathematics and often reduces student maths anxiety.
The MTQ projects are fun, hands on and investigate topics that are very interesting to our students. At TPPS, our Grade Prep - 4 students are currently completing a class project and our Grade 5/6 students are undertaking an individual or group project.
Our school has achieved outstanding results in this statewide competition (please see below). We wish all our classes and students the very best with their 2025 projects!

Exciting News: Grade 5 & 6 School Musical Announcement!
We are thrilled to announce that this year's Grade 5 and 6 musical production will be
Disney's Finding Nemo: The Musical!
Many of you may be familiar with Finding Nemo from the film, but the stage adaptation is a musical.
Performance Dates:
• Wednesday, 17th September 2025 •
• Thursday, 18th September 2025 •
This is the last week of Term 3.
Both performances will take place in the evening at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre. More information regarding ticket sales will be shared later in the year, so stay tuned to the newsletter and compass!
Student Involvement: Every Grade 5 and 6 student will play an important role in making our production spectacular. For students interested in a lead role, auditions will be held in late Term 2, with preparations ramping up in Term 3 as we work together to bring the production to life.
How Parents Can Support: Parents can support their children by noting the production dates and ensuring there are no major holiday conflicts, especially for those aiming for a lead role. However, if there is a date clash, rest assured that every student will have a part to play in the production.
Lower Primary Involvement: Students in lower primary can also contribute by contributing to our Prop Competition—more information to come about this.
We are incredibly excited to embark on this creative journey with our Grade 5 and 6 cohorts. Keep an eye on future newsletters for more updates and important information.
