We again have the pleasure of having Heather and Daisy visit our school every week as part of the Story Dogs program. Heather and Daisy assist students with their reading and we love seeing them around the school.

The ‘I CAN Imagination Club’ is a mentoring program where sessions are run for 1 hour / week over a series of 8 weeks with each week based around one of the following themes:· Teamwork· Positive identity· Communication and self advocacy· Emotions· Connection· Wellbeing and stress management· Organisation and creative reflection· Student led session and Celebration

We look forward to having I CAN mentors return and support a group of students towards achieving their goals.

THE PARENT HUB

This term, the Wellbeing Team (Jamie, Josh, Hayden, and Harry) is excited to trial and introduce a new initiative called The Parent Hub.

The Parent Hub will be a welcoming space within the school where parents and carers can connect, share, and access resources aimed at promoting positive wellbeing for our children and families. We plan to provide support and information on a range of topics, including child anxiety, bullying, cyber safety, school transitions, referral pathways, and wellbeing initiatives at Ceres Primary School—just to name a few. These topics were identified through a parent survey conducted earlier this year.

Our first Parent Hub session will be held on Wednesday August 13th, from 2:15 to 3:00 PM in the Conference Room. This initial session will include a meet and greet, an overview of upcoming school incursions, a discussion on bullying (what it is and what it isn’t), available resources, and a chance for you to share what other topics or supports you’d like to see featured in the Hub.

If you are interested in attending, please complete the expression of interest form via the link below. We look forward to welcoming families to our first session!

NATIONAL TREE DAY

This Friday is Schools Tree Day and National Tree Day on Sunday. Over the past few years, we have been grateful to receive the wonderful support of our school community to re-image two areas of our school, the native garden entrance and the area near the new playground. Both areas look amazing with the guidance of Em Hansford and many parents who assisted on the day or purchased plants. We won’t be planting in any new areas on Friday but will look to setting aside a day later in the year to plant out an area. On Friday, students are participating in some nature activities within their classrooms to acknowledge the day.

DEAKIN OT STUDENTS

Hello! We are Esther and Emily, and we are excited to be working with Ceres Primary School this year as part of our Third-Year Occupational Therapy (OT) placement at Deakin University for eight weeks.

Our role as OT students is all about helping children do the things they need and want to do, to support their overall health and wellbeing. This aims to provide a complementary and supportive role to the overarching education/curriculum plan, working in focus groups and with the whole school.

You might see us joining in during classroom activities, group sessions, or even out in the playground!

We aim to create a long-lasting impact on the school’s community and are looking forward to getting to know Ceres Primary School.

PROJECT ROCKIT – BULLYING INCURSION

This Friday, we received a visit from Project Rockit for our students in Year 3 to 6. The learning outcomes for the sessions were.

1. Students have gained a shared understanding of what bullying is and demonstrated their ability to identify various (cyber)bullying situation.

2. Students have grown insight into the emotional impacts for peers who are routinely excluded, bullied or discriminated against.

3. Students have collectively generated a kit of strategies to challenge (cyber)bullying and support those targeted.
