Grade Five

CAMP!

On the 10th of June we went to Forest Edge Camp for a thrilling four days! We had great food and did some amazing activities!

Activities:

The flying fox (312m long) was above some really pretty sights like amazing lakes and trees. That was my personal favourite. We had some other activities too. Like the bush walk we did, a 1.5k walk up a big hill to start and then a hut building activity once we returned. If your group chose to do the long walk and no hut building your bush walk would be about 3k. On the bush walk in my group there was lots of rain and muddy puddles which made it a fun challenge! Another activity we did was crate climb, that was another good one where you had to have a harness on. First you stand on one crate and then a partner of your choice would pass you another crate and you had to see how many you could get high. You could either do a spiral or a ladder technique. The highest number of crates stacked was seventeen!

Every night after dinner we would do an activity and on Wednesday we did a night walk. We got to use our torches to help us. Once we got to the top or a large hill we saw the southern cross and lots and lots of stars, and of course the pretty moon. It was a great time to reflect and be grateful. Overall our four day camp at Forest Edge was amazing and very memorable.

A day at camp:

One of my highlights are the delicious food and the cabins where the grade fives got put with some of their friends. We had a lot of breakfast options such as toast with jam, butter, apricot jam and vegemite but we also had some cereal options and porridge. My favorite was the Sultana Bran. After our meal, all the grade fives went to their cabins to brush their teeth and then get into their first activities. Then we went to have our morning tea! Every morning tea we ate different cookies and fruit. After we had our next second activity followed by lunch. My favorite was the burgers! Then we had our third activity before afternoon tea where there was more fruit and a snack each. We had our last day activity and afterwards had a little bit of free time before we had dinner. My favourite dinner was sausages and mashed potatoes. Lastly we would smash through our last activity (a night activity like the trivia contest!) and then go to our cabins to get ready for our warm cozy beds.

Life Ed (relate, respect, connect):

Kids learned about “Relate, Respect and connect.” with Kate and a giraffe called Harold. Relate is about relationships and people you know in your life. Relate also means that you can have different relationships, like if you play footy then your relationship is with your teammates and you have a footy relationship. You can have different types of relationships with different people in your life. The 2nd one is respect. Kate tells us about how to say things in a respectful way. An example is when you don’t like something that someone gave you but you still use your manners and be polite. The last one is connect. It’s when you make connections to people you know and learn what you have in common. We did some group activities and a fun role play to practice using “respect, relate and respect” techniques before Harold came out and we told him all about it.

Buddies:

Tuesday the 17th of June the grade fives met up with our prep buddies!

Together, we made up fun handshakes and friendship bracelets.

The handshakes were really fun. All the cool hand movements and fun actions were really cool. The preppies enjoyed making handshakes with their buddies.

Friendship Bracelets were amazing and creative with all the different beads and coloured pipe cleaners, they made the bracelets stand out and unique. Together the buddies had a really good time and enjoyed each other's company.

We can’t wait to see each other again in two weeks time!
