Hoop Time

Year 4 Junior and Year 5/6 Senior Hoop Time Basketball Competition

Students in Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 have been practising their shooting, dribbling, passing, game sense skills and team work in classes in the Physical Education program. The students' skills and knowledge were put to the test in a real life competition game within the Hoop Time Basketball competition with our senior students at Dandenong Basketball Stadium, and our Year 4 students at the State Basketball Centre.

I was very impressed in the manner our students applied their skills against opposing teams, showing great enthusiasm and determination to work together to be successful on the day.

Some great highlights from the Year 5 and 6 Senior Hoop Time was our Allstar Boys and Girls winning all their games on the day, becoming undefeated and our boy’s team taking home the grand final win. One of our two many Future Star teams (St Simon Spurs) played their way through the round robin and made it to a grand final. Unfortunately they just came short of winning against a tough side. A final shoutout to our rookie teams that made the most of the experience sharing in the fun while learning the rules and tactics within the game.

Our Junior Hoop Time students were excited to play at the State Basketball Centre on Friday 13th June. It was a great effort with excellent passing and movement to get into open spaces. Our Year 4 Boys Allstars team showcased exceptional teamwork and skill, culminating in a grand final spot and a well-deserved victory in a close matchup with a 3 point win. Also, our Future Star girls, St Simon Apples showed great energy on the court in their game and made good transition passing and play to score easy baskets. This earned them a spot in the Grand Final and won convincingly to take home a premiership medal. Finally it was great to see some of our Year 4 students score their very first competition basket in this setting. It is wonderful seeing their joy after scoring for the first time, a great achievement they can be proud of.

I’d like to send a big THANK YOU to all our parent helpers who offered to coach and score for teams on the two days. It was so good to see strong support on these two days! In addition, we thank the great leadership of our Sport Leaders, Kyan, Louis, Tilly and Scarlett who were helpful in guiding students in their coaching roles.

We especially appreciate the coaching efforts of some past St Simon students, Rory, Kai and Taj. It goes to show the strong connection we have at St Simon within the community and our students even after their time at St Simon.
