NAIDOC Week Celebrations in Term 3

Next term, we will celebrate NAIDOC Week. The acronym NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. It celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s history, culture and achievements and is a great opportunity to learn about their rich culture. It is a time of celebration and connection between all peoples.
Over the first few weeks of Term 3, we plan to celebrate as a whole school NAIDOC Week.
On Monday the 28th July, we are asking students to wear the colours of the Aboriginal Flag (red, black and yellow) and in the afternoon from 2:20- 3:10 we have a special didgeridoo performance. Families are invited to attend.
Throughout this week, there will be special buddy activities planned involving creating various artworks which will be displayed around the school and in the classrooms. The students will be exploring different aspects of Indigenous people’s history, culture and achievements as part of their learning for the week and beyond.
Furthermore, students in their specialist classes will also have the opportunity to learn about the sport, music and art of Aboriginal people.
It will be a great opportunity for students to participate in a range of activities and to support their local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
