Subject Selection 2026
At Marist-Sion College, we are committed to supporting our students in making informed and thoughtful choices about their future learning and pathway. As part of this commitment, we are excited to offer an opportunity to visit the 2026 Subject Selection Expo—an engaging and informative event for both students and their families.
The Expo is a cornerstone of the subject selection process, designed to help students explore the wide range of subjects and programmes offered at the College. Staff from all Learning Areas will be on hand to showcase their subjects, answer questions, and guide students in considering the pathways best suited to their interests, strengths, and future aspirations. Our Careers and Pathways Team, as well as our Learning Adjustment Team will also be on hand to support and guide.
Student Briefings and Lunchtime Expos
The subject selection process kicks off with targeted student briefings during school hours, delivered by key staff including our Careers and Pathways Coordinator, Director of Senior Learning, Director of Junior Learning, and Vocational Learning Leader. These sessions will take place on Monday 30 June and Tuesday 1 July for students currently in Years 8 to 11. Each year level will also have the opportunity to visit the Expo at lunchtime, tailored specifically to them.
Parent and Student Expo – Tuesday 1 July
The after-school Parent and Student Subject Selection Expo on Tuesday 1 July, from 3:30pm to 5:00pm is an opportunity for families to engage with their child’s hopes, interests and plans for the future. Held in the College Hall, this event invites families to connect directly with teachers, learn more about subject offerings, and attend brief, year-level-specific presentations in the Marian Theatre.
Presentation times in the Marian Theatre are as follows:
- Year 8 (2025): 4:00pm
- Year 9 (2025): 4:15pm
- Year 10 (2025): 4:35pm
- Year 11 (2025): 4:50pm
This is a valuable opportunity to ensure students feel confident and supported in making choices for the year ahead. We encourage all families to attend.
Key Dates and Selection Process
Following the Expo, students will begin submitting their subject preferences. Each year level has a clearly defined timeline, with dates for application openings, subject selection submissions, and interviews for acceleration and vocational programs. Subject Selection Interviews will be held in August and are an essential step to finalising subject choices in partnership with parents and staff.
Families are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the 2026 Subject Selection Handbook. Detailed instructions and resources will also be made available through SIMON and PAM.
Looking Ahead
Subject selection is a significant milestone in a student’s learning journey. By engaging in this process, students take active steps toward shaping their future pathways, whether they be academic, vocational, or a blend of both. With the support of College staff and family, students will be well-positioned to make confident, informed decisions.
We look forward to seeing you at the Expo and working together to help every student at Marist-Sion College thrive.
Colour Awards
This week we welcomed students, staff and parents to our Assembly hosted by Champagnat House to announce our 2025 Colour Awards.
To achieve a particular Colour Award, each student must not only show their ability, skill, and passion in certain fields, but must also demonstrate a high level of participation, consistency, and distinction in their work ethic, over a number of years.
Furthermore, the awardees must satisfy the endorsement of their House by meeting general requirements including being a positive and supportive member of the College community.
Colour Awards are presented to students in Years 10, 11 and 12 and are based on achievements throughout their time as a student at Marist-Sion College
