Notes from the Principal

I cannot believe we are already at the end of Term 2. Looking back over the calendar, we have squeezed in a lot of learning and extra curricular opportunities.
Years 3-6 Gymnastics
Do you now have some small Simone Biles or Nadia Comaneci impersonators tumbling around your household? Many thanks to Hamilton Gymnastics for hosting all of our students this term. The Year 3-6 students thoroughly enjoyed their experience, especially the obstacle course. We were able to offer this program at no cost to our families through a Sporting Schools Grant.
Speech and Drama - Esiteddfod
Did you see our young celebrities in the Hamilton Spectator? They all did a wonderful job. Many thanks to Mrs Huf for supporting our students from entries, through to rehearsals and on the day. I am so impressed with the confidence shown by our students who recited poetry. Willow, Evie, Max, Sybil, Aria, Ivy, Pippa and Sienna – we think you are amazing! Thank you for displaying the courage to have a go, and for giving 100% effort. We are all so proud of you.
Our Year 3-6 drama groups did an exceptional job. Many thanks to Cooper for taking a role in both groups – you really demonstrated your CPS RED GUM values that day!
Semester Reports
All staff have been putting the finishing touches on end of Semester reports. Please remember – if you have any questions about your child’s progress, reach out to their teacher. We are more than happy to spend time with you, helping you to understand how your child is going at school.
This Semester reports will read a little bit differently. As we now teach the new Victorian Curriculum 2.0, the mathematics progression point will read as "Mathematics 2.0". Your child's teacher will assess against the curriculum achievement standard and assign one aggregate progression point based on all areas.
Attendance
This year we will be including your child’s attendance on Semester reports. Regular attendance at school is essential to your child’ learning growth. We plan and teach a scaffolded curriculum, moving students through skills and knowledge based on point of need within a tight schedule. If your child is absent when key concepts are taught, they may not come across those concepts until later in the year, or in the following year. This is especially important if your child is receiving extra support through the Tutor Learning Initiative and other intervention programs like Sounds Write. We encourage our families to try to avoid family holidays in peak learning times through the term, and to take advantage of transport such as our school bus to get your kids to school.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is proving to be a popular place every Monday and Wednesday morning. Barb has been on the job, serving up toast and cereal. We can also offer baked beans, spaghetti and porridge as a hot option on request.
We also have toast on Tuesday and Thursday at recess.
It was thanks to this program that we were able to provide family packs to support our community over the school holiday break.
Name the Stadium
Don't forget - we are seeking suggestions to name our refurbished stadium. If you would like to contribute a suggestion, please email cavendish.ps@education.vic.gov.au or call the office. Suggestions close on Friday 25th July. The final name will be chosen by School Council.
Last Week of Term....
Next week is the final week of Term 2.
We will be running our regular timetable Monday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday Miss P is popping back to supervise the students with Mrs Huf while the teachers finalise reports and start planning for Term3.
Thursday we will hold our NAIDOC celebration. NAIDOC week is in the first week of the holidays, so we will get in early.
And don't forget - Friday is a pupil free day for staff to complete training.
Have a good weekend.
