PERFORMING ARTS

This term in Performing Arts, our students have embarked on an exciting global adventure through a unit called Performing Arts Around the World. Each grade has been exploring diverse performance traditions from across the globe, with every student receiving their own passport to document their travels. As they "visit" each country, they collect stamps that represent the rich cultural experiences they've discovered.

Among the highlights, students have engaged with the powerful traditions of First Nations Peoples, creating their own Songlines to tell the story of a journey using a variety of instruments to mimic animal and nature sounds. The rhythm of West African drumming has also been a key focus, with students mastering the art of playing the djembe to create vibrant and dynamic music. They’ve also danced their way through Scotland and Spain, learning the intricate steps of Highland dancing and the passionate movements of Flamenco.

In addition, our students channelled their creativity by creating puppet shows inspired by the Ancient Greeks and crafting their own musical instruments from recycled materials, inspired by the resourcefulness of Indigenous Americans. They also explored the rich cultural history of African American Hip Hop, writing and performing their own raps to the instrumental version of Dr. Dre’s Still Dre, showcasing their lyrical talents.

It has been a term full of creativity, exploration and cross-cultural learning and we are incredibly proud of how our students have embraced each new "destination" with enthusiasm and passion. We can’t wait to see where their musical and artistic journeys take them next!
