Year 1/2 in Term 4

Integrated Studies 

This term we are diving into Science! As part of our Push and Pull unit, students have explored air, land and water forces through hands-on investigations. We really enjoyed our excursion to Earth Ed over the past week.

Sounds-Write

This term, in Sounds-Write, students have revisited their learning about vowel digraphs and continued developing their understanding of polysyllabic words. They kept practising the skills of blending, segmenting, substituting and deleting to support both reading and spelling.

Reading

In Reading this term, students have been reading rich texts that have focused on predicting, analysing, critiquing, connecting, inferring and summarising and how these skills help us understand a text. 

Writing

This term in Writing, students have been immersed in the writing process through descriptive writing, narratives and procedural texts that connect with our Science unit. Students thoroughly enjoyed making fairy bread as part of their procedural writing!

Numeracy

In Numeracy, students have explored shape, division, multiplication, chance, location, data collection, patterns and money. Students have been really engaged with our Launch, Explore, Summarise sessions, which encourage students to investigate real life, open ended problems and apply a range of mathematical strategies and problem solving skills.
