Principal`s Message

As we approach the end of the school year, remember: Every challenge we’ve met and every step we’ve taken has helped us grow into who we are today.” — Author Unknown

This sentiment feels especially fitting as we navigate this busy time at Fitzroy Primary. Over the past two weeks, our Year 3–6 students have been immersed in their swimming program. I’ve had the pleasure of joining several classes, and it has been incredible to witness the remarkable improvement in students’ confidence and technique. Their resilience has also shone through, embracing each session with enthusiasm despite the weather swinging from warm sunshine to cold, windy conditions.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the AFFEBs Conference in Canberra with Danielle and Lorna. AFFEBS, the Association of Francophone and French-English Bilingual Schools is a network that connects French bilingual and immersion programs across Australia. The conference provided a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with colleagues, share experiences, and explore new approaches that strengthen bilingual education. We returned with many valuable insights and ideas that we look forward to bringing into our program here at Fitzroy.

Our school Fete on 15 November was another highlight of the term. What a fantastic day! We were fortunate with the weather, and I truly believe it was our best Fete yet. I cannot thank our organising committee enough for their tireless work and dedication. A big thank you as well to everyone who volunteered before or during the day, and to all the local businesses who generously contributed to our silent auction. Your support makes a real difference to our school community.

Looking ahead, we will be holding two transition mornings on Tuesday 9th December & Tuesday 16th December. These days allow staff to consider class placements, relationships, and student needs for next year. Please keep in mind that these are not final class groups, and confirmed class lists will be released before the end of the term. If your family will be moving on in 2026, please let us know as soon as possible, as this information greatly supports our planning. We also encourage families with children who are yet to enrol for 2026 to contact the school so we can assist with the enrolment process.

We also have some exciting events coming up, including the Foundation–Year 2 swimming program and the Year 3–6 camp. These experiences are always memorable for students and help strengthen connections across the school. For our younger students, please ensure they have their swimwear packed each morning during the swimming program.

Lastly, a reminder about the importance of attendance and punctuality as we approach the end of the year. Every day counts, and learning continues right up until the final day. Thank you for supporting your child to arrive at school on time and ready to learn.
