Management of student attendance

At Pilgrim School, we value consistent attendance as foundational to student learning, wellbeing and connection. Our processes for monitoring and supporting attendance reflect both a pastoral and proactive approach.

Throughout most of 2024, student attendance was managed using the Sentral school management system. Teachers recorded attendance daily, and the system automatically alerted both class teachers and the Wellbeing Coordinator when a student had five or more absences or late arrivals within a term. This triggered a gentle check-in with families to offer support and clarify any concerns. Where a student reached ten days of absence within a term, more formal follow-up was undertaken in line with departmental guidelines.

Parents and carers communicated absences via the Sentral Parent Portal or App, phone or email. For any planned absence exceeding five consecutive days, an Exemption from School form was required and submitted to the Principal for approval.

In Term 4, Pilgrim School began transitioning to a new student management platform, Compass. This system will continue to support the timely identification and follow-up of attendance concerns, while streamlining communication between families and staff into 2025 and beyond.
