Student Wellbeing and Support

Student wellbeing continues to be a central priority at Pilgrim School, with a whole-school approach grounded in our values of Belong, Explore, Flourish and Serve. Our aim is to nurture each child’s emotional, social, and spiritual development, fostering a deep sense of safety, identity and purpose.
In 2024, the school-wide implementation of the Friendology program was a significant milestone. All staff were trained in the language and strategies of this positive relationships framework, empowering students to navigate friendships with confidence, empathy and resilience. The program was launched at our first Wellbeing Day for the year, which brought the school community together for a day of relational learning and fun.
Wellbeing has also been embedded into curriculum and staffing structures. All teaching staff received additional Non-Instruction Time (NIT) dedicated to wellbeing planning and implementation, recognising the importance of teacher capacity and modelling in supporting students holistically.
Our Wellbeing Team - including leadership, pastoral and learning support staff - met regularly to monitor student needs, coordinate responses, and strengthen staff wellbeing.
Lola, our wellbeing dog, continued her presence at school throughout the year. Her visits offered gentle comfort and connection to students, particularly those experiencing separation anxiety or emotional regulation challenges.
The Diverse Learning Team worked collaboratively across classrooms, offering support through targeted small group instruction, in-class assistance, and 1:1 intervention where needed. Their focus remained on ensuring every student could access learning and participate fully in school life, with appropriate accommodations as required.
Initiatives such as Grandbuddies, an intergenerational playgroup initiative with seniors of Seeds Church, also contributed meaningfully to student wellbeing by strengthening belonging, empathy, and service - key threads in the relational fabric of Pilgrim School.
