Letter from our Principal

It is with great gratitude that I reflect on another year of growth and grace at Pilgrim School. In 2024, we have continued to build on our foundation as a Christ-centred learning community where every child is known, loved and challenged to flourish.

A key focus this year has been strengthening our teaching and learning practices. Our staff team has engaged deeply with the Science of Learning, supported by Janet Farrall, and introduced key programs such as Prime Mathematics and the Jocelyn Seamer literacy approach. We also expanded our Pilgrim Positive Learning Communities initiative across all year levels, fostering a consistent and encouraging framework for student behaviour and wellbeing. The wellbeing of our staff has been a priority too, with continued provision of additional non-instruction time to support balance and sustainability.

Student life has been vibrant and full of opportunity. From involvement in SACSA and Sapsasa Sporting Carnivals, to the continued growth of the Pilgrim Choir who participated in their first ever Choir Eisteddfod, our students are thriving in a wide range of co-curricular experiences. We have also had a sustained commitment to student voice through SRC and leadership roles.

A sense of community continues to flourish through the many events and touchpoints we’ve shared with families. Our New Parents’ Dinner this year was the largest in recent memory, and 'Grandbuddies', our Intergenerational Playgroup has brought new and old together with joy. With our Pancake Day breakfast, our Family Afternoon at the Marion Pool, the school musical, Fathering Project events, our first ever 'Connections Cafe' hosted by our Year 6 students, our Christmas Celebration and  the Graduation - every moment reinforces that we are stronger when we gather.

Behind the scenes, we’ve also been laying important groundwork for the future. Strategic planning sessions, policy reviews, and updates to our style guide have helped clarify and align our vision. Staff set collective learning goals across all teams - teaching, administrative and Inclusive Education - signalling a shared commitment to excellence.

Physical improvements, from nature space planning and external painting to new furniture for our Technology Hub classroom and outdoor learning environments, demonstrate our commitment to physical spaces that support our mission.

In leadership, I’ve been privileged to participate in broader conversations within the AISSA and CSA networks, and to begin exploring partnership possibilities with key stakeholders. These discussions are guided by a prayerful desire to see Pilgrim thrive for generations to come.

I remain grateful for the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our students, the trust of our families, and the faithfulness of our God. Pilgrim School is a special place - not simply because of what we do, but because of who we are and the community we continue to become together.

In His service,

Andrew Edmondson
