It has pleasing to see our students continue the great work attitude and work ethic they started the year in term 1 with, continue in the first weeks of term 2. Our students and staff have been incredibly getting stuck into the learning in our classrooms while also participating in a range of co-curricular programs that has been taking the learning beyond the four walls of the classroom.
As you will read through other reports our students have done a terrific job with other recent activities this term including Year 7 and Vocational Major camp, Year 10 Outdoor Education Camp, Bellarine Division Athletics, senior interschool sport, Rugby Academy matches and our Instrumental Music performances.
On Thursday April 24, we held our annual ANZAC day assembly, which offered us the opportunity to reflect on all the incredibly brave service men and women who have fought to ensure we have the opportunities we do today. We were lucky enough to hear from Russell Lowe and Bob Lawson from the Lara RSL branch about the importance of ANZAC day and the spirit of ANZAC.
The ANZAC day commemorations continued with the dawn service at Lara RSL on Friday April 25th where our school captains and vice captains Suzane Herrera, Luke Mustard, Skye McMaster and Declan Migao read a poem and laid a wreath on behalf of our entire school community. Their participation reflected not only their leadership but also our school’s strong and ongoing connection to this important part of history.
A reminder to parents of our cyber safety session to all parents on May 15th at 7.00pm in 311.
This session will provide an excellent opportunity for parents to learn more about online risks and practical strategies they implement to mitigate these.
All parents in our community (not just Lara Secondary College families) are invited to attend and register through the following link
The evening is being put on by the Lara District Community Bendigo Bank, who have generously supported us with purchasing rugby goal posts, which will be installed on oval 4 over the coming weeks.
Finally, I would like to again remind families of when they are picking students up during the school day that to minimise disruptions to learning, we kindly ask that student pick-ups be scheduled during our break times to allow continuity of learning. Wherever possible it is best if students know what time they will be picked up. If you do need to collect your child during class time we will not make unnecessary calls to classrooms, as we do not want to disrupt the learning of all students.
Please see our break times below:
Recess: 10:14-10:35am
Changeover between session 2 & 3: 11:49-11:55am
Lunch: 1:09- 1:50pm
I would also like to give a friendly reminder to please drop off students to school outside of the school gates, the carpark next to the school can be an excellent spot for this. We have experienced issues of congestion in our staff carpark.
Thank you for your assistance with this.
