Year 4 Update
Our learning Weeks 4 & 5
English
To analyse the language features and structures of different poems. Students are working towards understanding how poets create meaning and emotion in their writing.
In Week 5, students will begin learning about debates and persuasive devices. They will explore how to structure arguments and use persuasive language to express their opinions effectively.
Maths
Students have been developing a range of strategies to solve addition problems, including the split and jump strategies.
Starting in Week 5, we will move into our multiplication unit, where students will begin building their understanding using strategies such as arrays, repeated addition, and doubling.
SEL
Students will identify people they can turn to for help if needed, as well as identify people they are able to help. They will use this to practice ways to seek help.
Humanities
Students will explore the purpose of rules and laws in our communities. They will investigate the consequences of following and breaking rules, and learn to distinguish between state and federal laws, including how these laws impact people’s everyday lives. To apply their understanding, students will create their own scenarios where rules or laws are needed and explain how they would be enforced.

---|---|
Reading | We strongly encourage students to read every night. Please use their diaries to record their reading and ensure they are signed by a parent or guardian before returning to school. |
Maths | We encourage students to regularly practice their times tables at home to build confidence and fluency. This will help them progress through their levels and strengthen their math skills by the end of the year. |
Humanities | Students may receive a Humanities homework task to support their learning in class. We encourage families to have these conversations at home to help students deepen their understanding of identity and history. |
